For instance, in the interwar a lot of people were still traumatized by WW1 and one could argue that if it weren't the case the nazis and fascists would've been dealt with way sooner. Now, more than that, I'd say that those who support (or who want 'peace negotiations') with the alikes of Russia are for the most part fully aware of the implications and the precedents, but are actually just enamoured with the concept of the "strong ruler" that Putin allegedly embodies.
