Eating alone at a restaurant should be normalized more often

Last week was my first time ever eating out alone and i was actually nervous. I wanted breakfast and didn’t think to order takeout so while in line decided to dine in. Truth be told It wasn’t bad, I enjoyed my alone time. I think we’re programmed from a young age that eating with others is a must. It’s seen on tv sitcomes, movies, in public, in school, etc. And if you eat alone then to some there must be something wrong with you when there might not be anything wrong. Anyway the food was great and I might go back when I have the chance.

Glad you enjoyed the experience. Do try it again. That little bit of "me" time can be very valuable in a busy day.

It can be relaxing eating alone in a restaurant..you can go at the pace you wish, have extra coffee, people watch. I find it a nice experience and when I used to dine in before COVID..I also noticed practically everyone is always with someone else. Like it just would be too strange going alone. It is absurd!! That loiks awesome btw🤤

Good for you for stepping outside your comfort zone

When I eat alone it’s usually because I’m on the go or I need a break 🤔

I do it sometimes. When I'm hungry, who gives a fuck?

I used to go to a restaurant after work alone and it seemed to take much longer to bring the order. I hadn't realized that until then how much easily time passes when you have someone to talk to. That's one thing and then I wouldn't want to leave my food there if I needed to go to the bathroom.

In our family, dinner time when we all sat down, usually meant having to have awkward, uncomfortable conversations.

How were we doing in school, or bring up some other BS that us kids did not want to hear about.

I completely prefer to eat alone.

I haven't been out alone recently but I used to love it when I was working long hours in Hospitality. I used to treat myself to the best Cognac and a Havana cigar to finish.

Enjoy! 🤗

I don’t mind it at a diner for lunch, but couldn’t do a full restaurant at night.

I find it actually works well in some restaurants. I find "family restaurants" fit the bill pretty well. Especially if you catch them at a quieter time. They are almost relaxing in their casualness. I used to live in an apartment down and across the street from a Perkins and I would swing in often. There was also a nice little Chinese buffet. I would even 'Dine In' at the Burger King and McDonald's if I walked up.

I'm still more nervous about doing so in fancier places.
i love doing things with myself so much. i am so fun to spend time with.

My wife is handicapped so I run all the errands and do all the shopping alone. So I almost always either have breakfast or lunch out alone daily. I definitely enjoy my alone time. 🙂

Damn, I have been going to restaurants by myself for the longest time..I had no idea there was some type of stigma. Glad you enjoyed
I always enjoyed dining alone, it always gave me the leisure to read a book while doing so and taking my time. I always did this during slow periods, so I wouldn't be hogging a table and inconveniencing others wanting to eat.
