Fact of life.

If we are born to die...
What is the point of living?

Seriously...
I wanna know...

Let's assume for a second God doesn’t exists...

No religious response.... give me a human tangible reason...

I am not suicidal so don't worry..
It is a question to spark a real conversation...

What is the point of life?
Why are we here?
Why does there need to be a point? You just enjoy your time here and go.

@Spoiledbrat
True... i like your statement...
windinhishair · 61-69, M
Perhaps we are here to help others and improve the lives of others that live beyond us as well as those that come after us. That would be independent of the existence of a superior being.
windinhishair · 61-69, M
@nocool I believe we are all interconnected far more than we realize, and that our combined efforts to improve our combined existence on earth and that of future generations is what is most important. Satisfaction, joy, and gratefulness will follow.
nocool · 51-55, M
@windinhishair
You remind me of a book i read..
The Celestine Prophecy..
It basically states exactly that...
We are all interconnected....
windinhishair · 61-69, M
@nocool Interesting. I haven't read it, but I will put it on my list. I work in the environmental field and spend quite a bit of time in nature and have seen first hand how all life is interconnected. Humans are part of the interconnection, though we often ignore it and try to control it.
Well, I gotta be here so I gotta make the best of it. I’m gonna have some fun. Otherwise it’s all in vain.
nocool · 51-55, M
@SheCallsMeCrushDaddy
Amen brother....
What is life if you don't experience what it has to offer?!
@nocool I can have a good time or sit around and be bored. Easy choice. 😃
DocSavage · M
You buy a new car. You pick something that’s not only useful , but pleasing to the eye. In the end, it will end up rusting in some junk yard. A empty frame , going no where ever again. But you enjoyed it when it lasted. That’s all anyone can ask for.
Why should life be any different ?
hippyjoe1955 · 61-69, M
I don't believe in death. Death is just stepping through the door into another form of living. Tossing this life away is not a good way to enter the next. Cherishing this life but not trying to hold on to it too tightly is a much better way to enter the next phase.
There is no objective point or meaning. It's up to us to decide what meaning to assign to our life.

I really love Reagan....
Picklebobble2 · 56-60, M
Maybe there isn't a point.
Maybe we just evolved to where we are by quirk of fate.
Perhaps we just climbed the food chain quicker because virus or climate or ice age ensured we adapted our diet and immune system quicker than any other species.

Not that it gives humans immunity from exactly those same things.
I mean look how climate and recognizable disease affect huge numbers of us still.
ArishMell · 70-79, M
I don't believe in gods either, but philosophers and theologians have been debating that "meaning of life" question since time immemorial!

My text-book on human biology sums it up rather bleakly, by prefacing its chapter on reproduction with the observation that biologically, we exist to continue our species! (Same with any animal or plant, by extension, then.)
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
@ArishMell Thats right. Whether that is a worthwhile endeavour is up to you. But beyond that, whatever meaning you choose to add, whether to serve others or please yourself, is up to you.😷
Tminus6453 · M
You're here to pay taxes, so stop your contemplating
There is no point. We're here because we are. Simple.
nocool · 51-55, M
@MsSwan
I like it...
As you say...
The answer is simple...
AlchemyFox · 36-40, F
We're a phenomenon of matter. Cells that divide and evolve. That's the point. How we choose to spend this precious life span is up to us.

I do believe we are woven together and community is the key to our survival. We only damage ourselves and our future generations by acting like suicidal morons.

As for the why, I say why not!? If one thing is clear it's that we were born to live.
WillaKissing · 56-60
Once conceived and then born and then raised through childhood unless someone or some event kills us during those phases of conception, birth and being raised what choice do we have.

Now once raised I looked around at life and what it had to offer me, and I chose the path that would get me to where and how I wanted my life to be. Where I could live my happiest type of life for me to enjoy despite all the horrors and tragedies on my path and to share love with my friends and loved ones. To be able to extend a helping hand to a person in need and that truly wanted to
improve their life as I have done for myself.

This is my best tangible answer to your question barring all the influences you asked us to bar.
Peaceandnamaste · 26-30, F
Dont know there's a point of living or meaning of life. Personally I believe in reincarnation, I dont believe in a personal god, guess you have to give it meaning. Maybe its 42 or 3.141592653589...
SteelHands · 61-69, M
A few of the things you want to assume are dead end thought paths that make any reply illogical. Pointing that out, however is, ironically, logical.

If you'll admit to even the smallest possibility that any of your suppositions are incorrect to even a tiny degree, again, ironically, the reply becomes almost infinite in the range of possibilities.

So then my answer will be as distilled as possible if anything exists out of nothing, someone must know how to create a set called nothing. Then be able to make the set of everything come forth from the nothing.

Let's call this the creator, for lack of a better term.

So that I understand you, aside from recognizing a creator, meaning the creator of everything including the nothing it proceeded from, that creator's purpose for bringing forth intelligent life is not for all to know, and you want to exclude all ideas of collective cosmic theoretical dogmas and ethereal trademarks.

I get it. No guys or women ringing bells and chanting slogans.

But you want at least a reasonable sales pitch to explain why each one is a priceless and profoundly rare gem only to exist in one place in time?

That could be an excessively loooong conversation but it should suffice to say that not many would want to make the required life's work of it.

The one guy that ever did got pinned to a cross.

To enjoy the life we have. Be there for others while we can. Be happy and spread happiness while finding a purpose for ourselves that fulfills us.
melissa001 · 51-55, F
There would be no point. I suppose if you love life and everything that comes with it and you are happy and enjoying all your time on earth, then that would be a good point for living. But if at the end of your life, you believe that you will just be laying in your casket for eternity then what's the point? For me, believing in God or heaven or seeing my family once again gives me a reason to live. And look forward to my death.

( I wasn't trying to be all religious..just my opinion.)
nocool · 51-55, M
@melissa001
Being religious is fine....
The question is to make us think on who we are, why we are, and what should we become...

What is our role in life? Is it to live in a way that lifts everyone in a way folks around you naturally want to be better?
laotzu92 · 70-79, M
The next sunset you see should answer that question. Or the next time you hear some Bach.
MrMortal · 41-45, M
The essence of life unfolds in the connections we build, experiences we accumulate, and the continuous journey of self-discovery.
It's about finding meaning in shared moments, contributing to a larger canvas, and realizing that, in our diverse paths, we're all navigating similar worlds...
It's a totally random gift. Use it, enjoy it..
I beleive that there is no inherent meaning to life.

You are free to choose your own meaning if you want to if you're lucky enough.

Sometimes it's better to focus on enjoying the moment instead of figuring out how the moment came to be.

I hope it makes some sense of what I wanted to convey.
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
Genetically, all life forms are born to reproduce and pass on their genes. Thats at the biology level. But to encourage us, the more complex life forms make it fun to do. (Even if we pray it doesnt work while we are doing it) So there is that..
But as sentient beings we are uniquely aware of our own mortality.. And that makes our perspective on life unique as a journey, with an end.. One we know is inevitable. Some choose to dress up that ending with an afterlife, or with monumental achievements.
I choose to enjoy the journey and try to get to the end with as few regrets as possible.. I dont know who said this, but I agree.. "You only live once. But if you do it right, once is enough."😷
DeWayfarer · 61-69, M
Change is the reason for everything. It either changes and progresses or whatever ceases to exist.

This applies to everything. Even stars die and become something else eventually over billions of years.
I think the answer lies in each of us. For some, making the world a better place is the motivation. For others, life is more hedonistic. You must find the course that is meaningful for you.
redredred · M
Likely we are an intermediate stage in human evolution. Perhaps our only purpose is to keep reproducing so that evolution continues.
Wickflame · 46-50
It's possible that you are the one who makes the decision to live the life you're currently experiencing.

Specific reasons will allow life to continue for as long as you desire.

When one's life is over, they will have a better understanding of the point of their life.

Being a source of big oneness is something we choose to do for ourselves, to gain wholeness and expand our understanding in other universes.
LandOfOz · 61-69, M
We aren't really here thats whats misunderstood. This is really like a dream or a c omputer game. Once you understand that everything starts to make sense.
Now conciousness does exist and that conciousness is the creator of everything else. Its not visible by any means. It does not have a place to reside nor a time when it started or when it ends . These are also illusions.
CrazyMusicLover · 31-35
To enjoy what there is to enjoy 😌
exchrist · 31-35
Id think the point is to enjoy it and improve things for those that come next. Thats pretty much it. Maximize fun minimize suffering. Honestly i have and continue to suffer lots. I often wonder whats the point.
TeTr0 · 41-45, F
To go through thr experiences laid out before you. Good or bad. Some will be positive, some will be negative. You have to just kind of find your own way free floating through it all.

We aren’t born to die otherwise we wouldn’t live up to the life God intended us to live we are born to help the vulnerable we are born to assist those who cannot help themselves or us back we are born to help a natural beings we are born to love and love others we are born to create and build a better future for our society
nocool · 51-55, M
@Monalisaa1986
We are indeed born to die...
And pay taxes :)
That is the end result of us all....

If i am not mistaken....
We failed living up to the life God wanted when Adam and Eve ate the apple....

What you listed are things we do in-between our first breath and last...
So if u understood you correctly...
Life is about living for a better society and loving others...
Am i correct?
Monalisaa1986 · 36-40, F
@nocool yes
basilfawlty89 · 31-35, M
Very nihilistic.

However, look on the bright side.
Let's say there is no point and purpose set in stone - that means we can make our destinies and purpose.
nocool · 51-55, M
@basilfawlty89
I believe you can make your own destinies and yes... even your own purpose...

Indeed....

I am the master of my fate,
I am the captain of my soul.
basilfawlty89 · 31-35, M
@nocool exactly. Be like The Dude, not the nihilists. Nihilism just sounds exhausting.
Well if God doesn't exist, an answer's not easy to come by. Might as well make the most of it with shallow pleasures
Justenjoyit · 56-60, M
