Does an animal's life has the same value as a human life?

We are at the pinnacle of the evolutionary pyramid. But does that give us the moral right to end anotherlife? Or does the rest of life exist to supplement our survival and happiness?

Good question.

If you picked a random house fly and a random human baby and were told to kill one, which life form would you end?

@gol979 .... difficult choice... the baby? 🤔
gol979 · 41-45, M
@Gloomy not for a satanist like yourself
zonavar68 · 56-60, M
@gol979 neither. Both have a place.
Renkon · 41-45, M
@gol979 If someone told me to choose between terminating a baby and a fly, why choose either? Practically how often are you in that situation?

On the other hand, if I had to save either the baby or the fly, its baby obviously. It doesn't mean I value one life over the other, It's circumstantial choices.

@gol979 flies lay eggs which produce maggots which eat the carcasses of dead things. Then the maggots turn into flies which then become food for a vast myriad critters. A dead baby is most beneficial in the long run for the environment.

@TrashCat humans make maggots too just not the as the form we tend to think of unwanted children as
TrashCat · M
@zonavar68 Unwanted maggots in human form are MAGAts
zonavar68 · 56-60, M
@TrashCat that's very racist and privileged
TrashCat · M
@zonavar68 Racist towards flies?
gol979 · 41-45, M
@zonavar68 both have a place but thats not the question. Its, does a human life have the same value as an animal, in this instance a fly?
gol979 · 41-45, M
@Renkon so a human baby is worth more than a fly?
Renkon · 41-45, M
@gol979 If you could only save one of either your little daughter or a stranger, who would you? Whatever you decision is, it doesn't mean one life is more valuable than the other. It is just that as an individual 'you' value one over the other in extreme situations. It's a matter of perceptive, I believe.
gol979 · 41-45, M
@Renkon i agree......its context, individual, human and what animal is the other choice
