What's something you didn't expect about life?

I didn't expect a global pandemic to happen and ruin people's lives.

That it was going to be such a thrilling rollercoaster ride... alternating quiet and strenuous phases fairly regularly... and deep valleys to be traversed before the next height could be scaled... and that the ride or trail to the next high point in life is at least as important as the high point itself... and the longer my journey on this roller coaster of life lasts, the more relaxed I become when a high point is passed and the next valley lies ahead of me... I know now : The valley won't last forever... the next ride up may be waiting around the next bend... . and if not there, then behind the next one or the one after that... but my life path will go up again... :)

That most of the values we are taught as children are wishful thinking and actually making it in the world requires we do things that are wrong by those metrics.

I didn't expect all of my old athletic injuries to come back to haunt me when I passed middle age. It hurts!

That I would feel so low and that I would have such debilitating anxiety

That people would all go collectively mad at the same time
