…“Honor your father and mother”, “that it may go well with you and that you may have a long life on the earth.” Fathers, do not provoke your children to wrath; instead, bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.…
Ephesians

I am not religious nor do I follow the bible…my parents are no longer here but I honour their memory. I try to follow the morals they held and become a person they would be proud of

@Carazaa thank you for saying that, it means a lot

@empanadas ahh thank you 😊

@SW-User Thank you!!

I respect my parents. They prioritized my siblings and I, and taught us about right an wrong.

However, so much child abuse is swept under the guise of "honor your parents".

@Carazaa
The love of Jesus healed me!
How did the dog do?
Carazaa · F
@Northwest I took care of the dog, and then my grandparents did.
Carazaa · F
@Northwest Realize that God says "Mine is the vengeance says The Lord" There will be
"gnashing of teeth" forever for those who have not repented and turned from their sins. I pray that she repented and is in heaven. If not eternety will be long for her, and I pray she wont go there.

I would have committed suicide only for my parents back about 20 years ago . Today I'm stronger than ever and with the help of God . My life is powerless with out God . That's why I stay in contact with God everyday . It helps me and it also helps my parents to see that I'm not in a bad way
Carazaa · F
@riseofthemachine Wow, powerful story! Thanks for sharing!
riseofthemachine · 41-45, M
@Carazaa No problem 🤗🤗🤗

I do my best to respect them, but I don't pretend to believe their religious or political views, and that often pisses them off.
Carazaa · F
@BlueVeins Yes it's important to be honest, but its hard if people don't accept your views 🤗
SW-User
I mean I don't think I am disrespectful but I could probably work on being more helpful or more eagerly willing to help.

I usually help but I guess sometimes not with the most willing attitude.
Carazaa · F
@SW-User Your parents are blessed to have you as a son!
SW-User
@Carazaa thanks I just hope to see them grow old and happy.
Carazaa · F
@SW-User I hope you will!🙂
Fertilization · 36-40, F
I love my parents to no end. Though they are not anymore, but they are unforgettable to me.

I can never repay them for their kindness. When they were with me I would honour them in the best way.

“My Lord! Be merciful to them as they raised me when I was young.”

Aameen.
Carazaa · F
@Fertilization How wonderful to have parents like that! 🙂
Fairydust · F
Yes I do, Always have.
Carazaa · F
@Fairydust So sorry! She probably did what she thought was best at the time, and was in shock herself.
Fairydust · F
@Carazaa aw thank you, She definitely did her best, I had a great childhood, it was traumatic experience at the time but Ive a great family, people go through way worse.

Shes an amazing lady 🥰
Carazaa · F
@Fairydust Awww 🥰
Pfuzylogic · M
That is one of the commandments that I have struggled to keep but have done my best to do so. Forgiveness is always key in relationships no matter what the age!
Carazaa · F
@Pfuzylogic So true! Good that you are working on it, try to do it for the Lord as best as you can. But it is not a sin to put Jesus first and don't compromise your faith to please them if they are abusive.
Dlrannie · 31-35, F
Yes as well as my ancestors🙂
Carazaa · F
@Dlrannie They are blessed then.
Dlrannie · 31-35, F
@Carazaa I wouldn’t know about that but they are revered 🐼🥢
Yes, I love my mom and she’s my role model. 😊
Carazaa · F
@Vivaci What a wonderful thing to say! I wish you were my daughter!
malaki11 · 31-35, M
Yes and no. I don't respect my mother rather I love her so much that I practically worship the ground she walks on. I hate to displease her. As more my father, I must respect him even though I don't like him. I have to speak formally to him and he often till this day if I try to disagree or complain "Don't talk back to me! Don't argue with me! I am NOT your mother!!" My mother runs a lot of interference between her children and their father. Usually he leaves us for our mother to deal with most the time BUT if we do something to disrespect or mistreat her then he will step in in a hurry. If she asks him to or doesn't object to him discipline us then we know we've really screwed up. It is knowing that if we're not shielded by our mother then our father can be very strict and harsh that keeps us begrudgingly respecting, speaking formally, obeying him, and treating him with distant coldness.
Not the only ways to honor them...

I love And respect my mother, and would do anything for her.

I "honor" my father by acknowledging that he is my biological father and not denying that. But the man was human filth when he was alive.
Carazaa · F
@PrivateHell So sorry! Sounds like you are a wonderful son!
@Carazaa I haven't always been, and I own that.
Yes and no 🤣 I mean I respect them and help them if they need it but I don’t live the life they wanted me too. If that makes sense. 🤷‍♀️
Carazaa · F
@SweetNSassy Yes, we shouldn't live for our parents. You do what is right for you. Sounds like you are kind, that is wonderful!
I honor the good things they did, but am not going to ignore the bad things or respect them for those too.
Carazaa · F
@NerdyPotato I encourage you to forgive them.
@Carazaa I did, but I'm still not going to honor that behavior.
ServantOfTheGoddess · 61-69, M
Yes, and they honour me.
Carazaa · F
TurtlePink · 22-25, F
I used to not
Spica · 31-35, F
Sure. Always.
Piper · 61-69, F
Yes, I loved and respected both of my parents. They were honorable people. No matter how angry with or disappointed in I ever was with either of them, I knew that.
StevetheSleeve · 31-35, M
Not sure they’re worthy of honoring but I’ve come to grips with them and their deaths.
Carazaa · F
@StevetheSleeve They probably did the best they could under the circumstances. Maybe they had very hard childhoods themselves?
inflatablebimbo · 31-35, F
My parents can’t stand me lol
empanadas · 31-35, M
I used to have a bad relationship with my parents. However, since I moved I realized how much they did for me and realizing they aren't perfect. I help them whenever I can and talk to them with understanding
Carazaa · F
@empanadas Aww wonderful. It's hard being a parent. Good for you working on the relationship.
