What’s the most historic thing that has happened in your lifetime?

Keraunos · 36-40, M
For sustained series of events:
• Climate change
• Entangling of the Internet into practically every facet of daily life, including mass surveillance
• Rise of Third World powers to parity with the West
• End of the "Bretton-Woods system", if we are in fact in the early stages of that occurrence
• Annihilation of states one after the other in the Islamicate world, and proliferation of fundamentalist ideologies therein
• Radicalization of the Western peoples into a handful of crudely-designed granfalloons and the ostracism of intelligent discussion
• Likely economic collapse to which covid played the role of last straw (assuming Neoliberal plate-spinning doesn't manage to restore all the smoke and mirrors again this time)
• Covid
• Probably way more shit I'm not thinking of just now

For watershed events that happened in a day:
• Fall of the Berlin Wall
• 9/11
• Edward Snowden's leaks

Some dude named Ben Ghazi hoarded a bunch of emails or something. It lead to 10 investigations and cost taxpayers $7 million, but at least now we know politicians are incapable of learning from mistakes

@TinyViolins God-damned greedy e-mail barons. They told us the e-mails would trickle down.

What an excellent question !

Well, i guess they fall into two catagories. The good and the bad.

For the 'good' i suppose you have to include the ending of the Vietnam war.
🔹The moon landing.
🔹The fall of the Berlin wall and the ending of communism in most places.
🔹The creation of the internet. For all it's faults it's shortened the distance between family and friends considerably.
🔹The ending of apartheid in South Africa. Nelson Mandela being freed.
🔹The ending of the civil war in the former Yugoslavia.
🔹The signing of The Good Friday agreement in Northern Ireland. Hundreds of lives not only saved but changed for the better as a result.
🔹Child mortality rates worldwide are the best they have ever been.
🔹Medical advances everywhere from the creation of IVF to advances in treatments for those with long-term , previously life-threatening conditions like H.I.V/AIDS for example.

For the bad ?
🔹Well. Vietnam may no longer be an issue but plenty of others have taken it's place since.
🔹World economics goes through the same cycles causing desperation for many.
🔹Politics is slow to evolve. See: List of current world leaders and some of the atrocities caused in their name.
🔹etc.

War in former Yugoslavia. In my view, more important than the fall of Berlin Wall or 9/11. It showed how easy it is to destroy a country.

On the negative side: COVID 19

On the positive side.. the Berlin Wall falling, Obama’s election, rise of the internet. And most of all this 😎:
