People over 50: Does anything really good ever happen after you turn 50?

I’m not feeling optimistic tonight.

Wait until you are over 60. You get to shop at special hours when in a pandemic. It doesn’t get much better than that. 😉

there are some good things. look at it this way if you can.[image]
Some of the best stuff that ever happened to me happened after 50.
BlueVeins · 22-25
at least you're one year closer to not having to face the most fundamental absurdities of human life anymore.
Keepitsimple · 51-55, F
Honestly, I’m comfortable in my skin. I know what I want and don’t want and that’s good enough for me. I like the stability.
KuroNeko · 41-45, F
My mum got married at 65, has her own business and is planning a trip to Japan after lockdown..so I guess so

That depends on what you define as really good and how much effort you are prepared to invest. Sometimes luck plays a part in our achievements, sometimes it plays a part in squashing us. But most of the time our lives are the sum of our actions.

My life after 50 has not been what I imagined at 40 but I am not complaining. I got to hike to the bottom of Grand Canyon twice, I bought a bicycle, I met internet friends. Built a new house, was gifted with grandkids and generally have enjoyed the trip.

Sure there is the usual crap of life but it is also a challenge to overcome.

When this lockdown ends let's go out for a beer and burger and talk about life after 50.
luctoretemergo · 61-69, M
Absolutely!!!!
You know yourself!
Cosmetically I probably don’t look better but I dress better, I may not be as healthy but I know my limitations....
The need to show off or brag-I’m done!
At 70 I’ll probably be an old(er) grump but right now every day is a gift!
Don’t look back-look ahead!!!

@luctoretemergo Two things I learned at 70. First, it's a privilege denied many; all I had to do was look at our 50 year class reunion roster. And second, you can act a fool and they write it off to dementia.

They get to retire
cycleman · 61-69, M
I am enjoying the peace and quiet more and more. Get me next to the beach and just hear waves, gulls, wind in my ears and I am very content with not doing anything besides enjoying it.
PowerofStories · 61-69, M
Yes. Some good things that happened for me.

I visited Spain, New Zealand and Portugal after turning 50 when I hadn't traveled much my entire life.

I got divorced from an unhappy marriage and, as soon as this pandemic is under control, am ready to strike out for a new start in a new place -- or at least I can if I want.

I started singing Karaoke.

I am using the current stay at home time to reflect on what I want to do next and plan the rest of my life. It helps.

If a pep talk and some brainstorming might be helpful, feel free to PM me.
Carissimi · 70-79, F
I’m sure it does for many people. I’m not the best person to say it though because before 50 and after 50 were really hard for me, so age made no difference. I recently made a new goal to add to my New Year’s Resolution of not arguing or debating, and that is to only expose my mind to that which either brings me some measure of joy or mental stimulation, or stimulates interest in some way. The rest is just noise that drains my energy.
What good things would you like to happen, Kat?
RodionRomanovitch · 56-60, M
Everything that is good in my life happened after 50.
Magenta · F
Sure. For one thing, we can find a new passion. I did.
Diaermatty · 56-60, M
@Magenta old passion is good
exexec · 61-69, C
Except for aches, pains, a couple of other issues, life after 50 has been great! Having friends to share good and not so good times is a plus.
redredred · M
Absolutely, the kids move out, you might get grandchildren, you can get out of debt and you might be able to retire.
Lots of good things can and do happen after turning 50. One of them is a greater appreciation of simple pleasures.
JoePourMan · 61-69, M
The 10 years from 50 to 60 have been awesome. I expect the next 10 years to be just as good!
fairgame123 · 61-69, C
Hell yes, often
Diaermatty · 56-60, M
