Sitter who works for me regularly said she needed to know if she would be needed to work on the 12th November. I said 'Is there a particular reason?' And she looked annoyed and said she just needed to know. Why? 😕
Because she's trying to make plans for that day and she is doing the courteous/responsible thing by making sure you don't need her then. No, she's being the opposite of rude.
Why would it be any of your business why she is asking if you need for a certain date? Thats like putting in your vacation request and having your boss ask, "Is there a particular reason?".
Yep, there is a reason and that reason is none of your business.
@BluePlanet okay. I'm not trying to be rude but she probably thought you overstepped a boundary by asking for specifics. Employers do not own their employees and it's really none of your business why she needs time off as long as she asks with plenty of notice. Most businesses require at least 3 weeks which is about what she gave you.
In addition to what @SwampFlower said... not only was she not being rude to you. She was in fact being courteous. Based on what you've said here, at least, she didn't tell you, "I can't work on the 12th of November." Instead, she checked if you thought you would need her that day or not. That implies to me that if you had said, "Yes, I will need you" then she would've altered her plans so she could work.
