To think this was not rude?

Sitter who works for me regularly said she needed to know if she would be needed to work on the 12th November. I said 'Is there a particular reason?' And she looked annoyed and said she just needed to know. Why? 😕

Why would it be any of your business why she is asking if you need for a certain date? Thats like putting in your vacation request and having your boss ask, "Is there a particular reason?".

Yep, there is a reason and that reason is none of your business.
