No. It's too expensive.

Hmmm yes but then again I think some people just need to suffer in prison
Travelbug · 56-60, F
Yes there are some evil people that really can not ever be released and are just languishing in jail at the expense of the tax payer.
Travelbug · 56-60, F
@TinyViolins that is ridiculous too and could be scaled right back.
TinyViolins · 31-35, M
@Travelbug Yeah, but there's always the fear of condemning an innocent person to death. There's been multiple instances of technological advances exonerating previously convicted inmates

yeah @Travelbug

IMO
You only have to be wrong once!!

I believe in using criminals for research to prevent criminal behaviour in the future, in the same way we use ill people to research illness.

Not in shopping malls or schools!!

In certain instances yes

No. My position is simply a philosophical one. If society says killing is wrong so we have murder, manslaughter etc crimes on the statute books how can we then say "You did something bad so it is ok to kill you".... To me it's an absurd position philosophically.

Generally speaking no, but i would be under certain exceptional circumstances.

No. Studies show that it does nothing to curb the rate of punishable offenses. We're basically executing people just because we can. It's not real justice, it's just macabre theater

I have mixed feelings on this... On one hand, a psychopath who gets off on killing others should receive the death penalty. On the other hand, there is ALWAYS a chance of an innocent life receiving the death penalty and I think it should be taken in consideration before blindly supporting the death penalty. I don't think the government should even be allowed play God either and it is best for me to oppose the death penalty by default.
I don't think we should be killing people as a punishment but I also don't feel sorry for the people getting the death penalty. Too often, a prisoner on Death Row is exonerated. That alone is a reason not to use the death penalty.
yeah, for the right instances

@SW-User Me too. Prison is funky and an orgy of violence.

only for war crimes
I am a supporter of the punishment fitting the crime. I read a story once where a pedo/rapist was in fact raped to death in prison. I don't think people realize that a person doesn't need to be put to death to pay for the crime.

In certain cases where there is not a single shred of possible doubt such as serial killers or mass shooters..
They should be summarily executed..
There's no point in keeping them alive..
