Tell me about one of your dreams in life that got abandoned along the way...

I always wanted to have a huge giant family. I wanted to have a few children of my own, but adopt as well. I'm talking like a HUGE family with 11 or 12 children.
I guess my dream stems from not having much of a family of my own growing up and I wanted to be able to be a part of one as an adult. My only wish since I can remember was being a mother and loving all of these babies and kids.
My dream never happened though because my husband is adamantly against adopting any children, but we do have our own.
What about you?

I dreamed of being a brain surgeon, but when I started attending college, I was placed on a medication that made me too drowsy to study as much as I wanted. I'm still in my fourth year of college, I stopped being pre-med after my first quarter. I don't have the energy for med school.

Perhaps an easier med course. Xray tech takes 2 years. Or work with patients in a hospital in some capacity...?

I was already enrolled in a four-year college. I've stuck with the same major (human biology) and now I think I'll try to work as a lab assistant. It'll be no additional degree after I graduate from here. And I'm interested in working in a lab

Writing for a living. I have made a little money at it here and there, have even won a state wide writing competition and had a few of my screenplays optioned by a major film studio. But what I mainly have from a lifetime of serious effort is several old cardboard boxes filled with old typescripts. I look at them, and I feel sad.

Now I only write for the small readership composed of a few of my friends. I am old now. I know this game is not over until I am gone, but it's pretty late in the day and the scoreboard is discouraging.

@booboo: Aw, booboo...it means a LOT to me that you empathize, that you care! I've had a tough and lonely day today and you've put a little sunshine into it.

@greenmountaingal: glad I could bring a little sunshine your way dear...anytime you want to chat, I'm always available to chat with nice people

I guess I'm too young to say most of it is over. But I dreamed of being a scientist, and I realized I'm far too stupid and far too poor to afford the education, let alone capable of doing it.
greenmountaingal · 70-79, F
Could you find your way into the world of science at a different level? Lab assistant, for instance or something like that.

And, for what it's worth, I once met a full professor of physics at a major university and spent an evening with him and boy was he stupid! Maybe you are underestimating what it takes.

I wanted to be a professional soccer player in my sophomore yr in college I tore my rotator cuff in my shoulder

Tough luck on that one. A pro sports career is hard to make happen.

Owning a house with an acre or two. It quickly became unaffordable

Today's housing crunch is a miserable reality. That's why I live in one rented room. But times and real estate situations change over the years. You may someday have your chance.
Fernie · F
@greenmountaingal: todays housing crunch is caused by pure human greed. Unless I come into an obscene amount of money...it ain't gonna happen. I had to downsize so much I nearly disappeared. I lived in a tiny space for 15 years. It's amazing how used to it you get. I hope you get more space to live in...if that's what you want
greenmountaingal · 70-79, F
Actually, there are many facets to today's housing crunch. Landlord greed is what took over when the crunch occurred. Over the decades of my life, I have seen many changes and sharp, often unexpected real estate rises and drops take place. One factor in many areas is that illegal immigrants have poured in, cannot get loans to buy or build houses, so they have taken up a lot of what used to be blue collar and middle class affordable housing in apartments pushing rents up. The demand for such housing has pushed prices through the roof. If banks decided to change their loan policies, that might be one factor easing the crunch. Of course, governments could also change immigration policies but for a number of reasons, that is not likely.

11 or 12 kids ? Wow ! I had one and and then had a vasectomy. It just goes to show how very different people's dreams can be.

I can't really remember having any particular dreams. I didn't expect to reach age 30 though and I'm now 47, so in terms of that I'm styling.

I never had dreams.
greenmountaingal · 70-79, F
You're still young. You might have a few yet. And maybe make at least one happen.
