Everything is fine and dandy, as long as you have a home, but how about homeless people?

We have them over here as well, albeit not in the same percentage of the population than the bigger countries. Some of them become professional criminals, hoping to get caught, since spending time in jail for a few years is better than sleeping under overpasses, etc.

The mentally stable among our homeless are largely there by choice. The weather is great most of the year so with a tent and sleeping bag they're adequately protected from the weather, and I just found out there's a program in place that gives free prepaid smart phones to the homeless, and since a lot of the parks here have wifi they're set for communications and web surfing.

The mentally unstable are another story, and a rather sad one at that.

@Zaphod42I think everyone would prefer to have an apartment themselves, and should have that.
Zaphod42 · 46-50, M
@Carazaa Most people want that. But I've talked to a few homeless that very simply don't want the bills or responsibilities that come with it. They're happy being homeless in San Fransisco for the summer and homeless in San Diego for the winter.

@Zaphod42 According to Ron Burgundy, it's San Diago, which translates to whale's breasts.

Yes,so sad and tragic.I carry bottled water, non perishable, easy to chew foods since many have dental issues plus dry dog food since about 10 percent have dogs with them. Also food coupons from Mcdonalds are always good.It is thoughtful of you to mention their plight.Take care!

@luv2fly352 You are a good person.

As are you.The Lord bless and keep you safe.
Homelessness is too easy to overlook over here because these people don't always sleep rough - they are clean and go back to hotel rooms at night. You could pass one in the street and never know that this person is homeless.

I had people do it to me when I was homeless myself.

@HootyTheNightOwl When I lived in London, UK, almost two decades ago... I was astonished by the level of ignorance regular people showed towards homeless ones. I had never experienced that before. Probably one of the reasons I applied for the armed UK troops later on, as to correct things, no matter how bad they might have been.

They are dealing with heavy addictions usually. Drugs are really expensive in jail here so they’re putting up with-25 C instead.

@Bagalamaga I think there are differences between different countries, but in general, I think you are correct.

@SW-User I like sleeping outside, as long as I have enough padding to protect my discs. I hate the wasps, though, so thinking carefully about where to put my tent up (non-sexual reference) is quite important. The bottom of the nearest lake is always a good choice.

Very sad yet very true.
