I've thought about that too in the past, and let's think of it this way. Shortly after God created Adam and Eve, the serpent came along which means that evil was already lurking somewhere. If he didn't tempt Adam and Eve, he would have tempted someone else. It would only have been a matter of time.
If that never happened, Jesus and his disciples would have had no reason to go and preach the Gospel and lay hands on the sick, and Jesus would have had no reason to shed his blood for us on the cross so we can be saved.

If you go by the Christian Bible, Adam and Eve were susceptible to sin (disobeying God) and so it would have happened eventually no matter what. Bible doesn't seem to actually tell how long Adam & Eve were in paradise, being what it was, it could and probably was an eternity as far as we're concerned.
However, as others pointed out, both the serpent (Devil) and Adam & Eve were created as is by omniscient & omnipotent God, so in theology it's all part of God's plan in the first place. I don't think it makes any sense to interpret the Bible literally though; for starters, how was it possible for Adam & Eve to "hide" from God and why didn't God know even before what they'd done? Either God isn't omniscient, or He's being deceptive to entrap & mess around with Adam and Eve, orr... it's a parable about obeying God and not 'hiding' from him.

Bit of a tough start don't you think ?
One choice wrongly committed condemns man for eternity ?
Which of us isn't learning the original lesson ?
Man or God ?

Genesis speaks of a Messiah which represents hope. A promise and later a Covenant with Abraham.

There wouldn’t have been children.
Edit: I do take the story of Adam and Eve literally and consider it true and not a myth.

@Pfuzylogic Me too...
Life is duality. The purpose is of life is to choose between good and bad while experiencing suffering, pain, joy, love and trying to find light in darkness
we saw what it lead to
and we still get tempted
we are as weak as they were
and we still get tempted
we are as weak as they were

Interesting hypothesis, but we'll never know. I tend to think that if they didn't screw things up, someone else would have. But then if they didn't sin, there would be at least two perfect people who did not need redemption...

The batter on deck would have sinned sooner or later.
