What’s something you find strange about British culture

Every country has their own traditions that some people will think are strange, but you don’t know they are strange because they are normal to you. So, me being a Brit, what is some of the things you from strange about British culture?

I think it's a little weird how people are still widely proud of the old empire. Normally, you wouldn't expect to see good people approve of an organization that raided and killed and stole all around the world.

@Murmurs Don't play with your food hun!!
BlueVeins · 22-25
@Murmurs Yeah, I can definitely agree to that. I don't think I particularly have the ability to fix those things, but it's pretty clear that we've been involved in way too much evil shit, even in the past couple of decades. I would seriously question the character of anyone who supported the war in Iraq, or the installation of a puppet government in Iran.

I guess the only thing I would object to on your list is U.S. military spending. Our military is particularly inefficient, but that's not evil so much as stupid. So much change inexplicably falls out of this nation's pockets it's unreal.

@BlueVeins I'm out now but maybe we'll pick this up layer :)

A traffic warden issues a fine for illegal parking and upon receiving it Brit's say "Thank You".
Wtf!

I'm a Brit myself, and I still find morris dancing to be frankly bizarre.

As an American, I find it odd that the British are often so self-deprecating.

Driving on the LH side of the road. Are fish and chips still wrapped in newspaper?
DrWatson · 70-79, M
@jackson55 I don't think driving on the left is any more bizarre than driving on the right. I recently watched Ken Burn's documentary "Road Trip". In the early days of the automobile, there were no laws at all in the United States as to where on the road you were supposed to drive. It was a free-for-all! (And he shows some old film footage that is hilarious.) Now THAT's bizarre!

@DrWatson It the early days of the car in the US some cars drove on the left, some on the right. Around 1910/1915 makers agreed to make cars LH drive and put passengers on the right to be closer to the curb. Otherwise you are right.

Punch and Judy

@DrWatson For real? It is kind of similar lol
DrWatson · 70-79, M
@SW-User All I mean is that both kinds of entertainment depended on making violence funny. I am not saying that the three stooges said to themselves, "let's be like Punch and Judy". But that kind of humor has apparently been around for a long time, in many cultures, going back to at least the middle ages in Europe and Britain.

@DrWatson I just remember encountering it as a child and thinking how bizarre it was
Royalty. Very odd.
DrWatson · 70-79, M
@FreeSpirit1 On the other hand, given how hateful and divisive American politics has become, I have developed a growing appreciation for British royalty as an institution that both Tories and Labour can respect. (Hey everyone: notice how I did not spell it "Labor", even though I am a Yank!!!!)
