My theory is: probably she's herself in a (obligated) diet, like the doctor told her "either you fix your eating or you die young". She's outraged because you're eating what she can't eat anymore, so has to vent that hate/envy out in some way.

I had a coworker that struggles with a eating disorder. She left to find another job. My very large overweight manger talked me about her, making fun of her illness and asked if she texted me recently. I said no. He said next time she does I should say
Sorry but i don't text fat people.

In the UK they print the calories of a meal on the menus and it basically serves the same purpose.

If I've come out to a restaurant it's a treat and I don't want to be adding up the calories, I don't know what the aim of it is. I'm going to still order what I want, but 'oh good, now I know I'm having double my recommended calories for the day' 🙄
