Have you ever accidentally assumed someone’s gender identity?

I am careful how I talk now to people and have taken great effort to use gender neutral language to refer to people now since assuming someone’s gender identity has gotten me in hot water before. Until I know someone identifies as a man or a woman I just say they/ them pronouns and don’t call anyone ladies or gentleman ma am sir miss ms. Or mister. I say folks, everybody, you all. I will not say you guys with people I don’t know anymore because that also got me a little chastised because someone doesn’t identify as a guy or women who didn’t like being called guys. Yeah people are super sensitive nowadays and I’m trying to play nice. It does get me a little tongue tied though.

I’m one that’s happy that we have this new language these days. As someone who, back in the day, was on the receiving end of a couple of people mixing up my gender it lead to me when I think about it now, it lead to me getting a boob job.

It grated on my mind.

I know for the more, and I use it respectively, ‘regular people’ it can be a minefield but as long as they try or don’t show any malice then I’m ok with that.

@AdmiralPrune actually kleinfelters though rare includes both xx and xy chromosomes in one individual so even chromosomes don’t always tell the whole story. Plus in Hinduism there are 9 anatomical genders also according to the blood that came out of the eyes of the statue of Mary(considered the blood of Christ) Jesus had that condition. Furthermore Judaism has record of 5 anatomical genders. The tribes of Germany recognize 3. Why choose ignorance?

@Lilnonames even going by names some names are unisex like Jordan, Tracy, Sydney, Chris, Alex, etc. even a name is not a full indicator. Though most people are cisgender and identify as either man or woman, there are a smaller numbers of people who do not. And that’s where it gets a little dicey.
