Dear LGBTQ+ people.

To what extent are 'gender critical' perspectives mainstream in your community?

I apologise for the possible sensitivity for the question. I'm a straight cis man who wants to be a ally to trans people. A certain friend of mine has been trying to 'educate' me with 'gender critical' perspectives. I'm highly skeptical of a lot if things he tells me. I know that trans exclusionary feminism is a thing.

To what extent is this a real debate within the LGBTQ+ community and to what extent is it atroturfed (astroTERFED 🤣) by certain political interests.

Very minimal gender critical shit from what I've observed.

they done speak for the majority of LGBT people, their just ultra right wing bigots

"Gender Critical" is just TERFs rebranding because they realized people were catching on to how toxic they were and the term no longer hid their bullshit. The best analogy I can draw is how a bunch of White Supremacists started trying to call themselves "Race Realists" several years back. Every LGBT person I know is onto them and loathes them.

Not sure if it's mainstream or not, there's so much trojan horsing that it's hard to keep track. What I mean by that is that TERFS are like trojan horses, they want to invade liberalism with feminist ideals but are really right winged, their goal is to gain votes of moderates who may be voting for the far right unknowingly because most people don't think too deep and are one issue party voters.

So it's hard to say what's mainstream because there's a lot of subterfuge and stuff that goes on, even with anti trans scientists that come out. If you investigate these people, they're obviously kooks but they are also regarded as true just based on appeal to authority alone, never mind if medical establishments regard them as kooks or not.

TERF is just....boring!

I don't really hang much with many lesbians so I can't really judge whether some are feminists of the 'gender critical' mentality or not, I do, however, have a circle of trans people like myself.

General consensus is that we think of ourselves as women, dress and act as women. Some live as women, some are just part-timers (for want of a better term). So that's what we identify as.

My whole argument is this...there's those that say 'Well, you can't be a woman because you can't have a baby', to which I remind them that there's many women out there that, sadly, can't have children.....does that make them less of a woman?

Then I answer with a quick 'shame on you' and make them feel bad about even asking in the first place! Lol!

I really haven't got time for these bigots in my life..

🤪
Terfs are generally not welcomed. They have literally no swagger and their moves are weak.
Most LGBT circles agree that gender is purely about identity. If a male identifies as a woman, then she's a woman.
I’ve been a feminist for a really long time, and while being heterosexual I always supported gays, lesbians and bisexuals, while admittedly not knowing a lot about transgenderism. I now have a few friends who are trans, but they’re all my generation and have transitioned physically.

Some of the "old school" feminists I know well would probably be considered "terfs"—they don’t consider anyone female who wasn’t born so. One whom I know honestly believes that "it’s just another way of men dictating the narrative for women—by trying to become us". 🙁
