There is a difference between a crossdresser and a transgender woman. It's true that I find pictures of some crossdressing men very sexy without knowing how they feel about themselves but for a partner I would want definitely a man who accepts his body the way it is. No transitions, no hormones, no fake boobs. I love male body and a picture of beautiful man in stockings, loose dress, makeup and long hair excites me to no end.
It would be ideal for me if he had some feminine side (like wanting to bottom) but also took crossdressing rather as a fetish than a desire to become a woman.

Yes there are. Usually many keep cross dressing a secret until after they are committed or married. Then the woman may feel that this 'surprise' is unfair or not what they signed up for.

A friend in college had a gf with no discernible LGBT inclinations. They talked a lot and liked to read some magazines where people wrote in about lifestyles and various kinks. After one date, he was totally surprised that she asked him if he'd like some of her dresses that she didn't wear much any more (they were about the same size). He was very surprised by her offer.

It may be also how they approach it once the relationship starts getting serious. It may be a lot like when someone wants to bring up a threesome or swinging with their partner. Sometimes its all in how you bring it up.

I have had a life time love of wearing woman's lingerie. My first wife couldn't accept that and we got a divorce. She even told my family and friends. My current wife is very supportive and we would enjoy it together until her health started to fail. After my divorce from my first wife I was very open with the women I met and most of them were ok with it. I live in a very conservative small town now and have to be pretty careful who I let know.
