Is being trans a mental illness?

Is being a transsexual and or transgender a mental illness? Discuss.

(Disclosure): I mean mental illness in the same sense as any mental illness such as ADD, ADHD, OCD, all the way to schizophrenia. I’m not using the term mental illness as in a brainless nut job.

Most things that aren't approved by the majority are called mental illness. I'm shy as fuck which negatively impacts my life and communication by that reasoning I'm mentally ill as well. It doesn't affect how you behave toward others like bipolarism etc unintentionally. So calling it a mental illness would just be a mean comment that would be your problem with their physical appearance, not their showing personality
