Hey it doesn’t work but if an individual choose to go through it 100% voluntarily what’s the issue?
Beats the conversation therapy done in some other parts of the world...
Throwing off of roofs and forced sexual reassignment surgery and stonings...
@Ozuye502

Because harmful, ineffective procedures should not be allowed. That's how the medicine works anyway

@Pikachu opioid meditation is harmful and addictive doesn’t stop doctors from writing prescriptions?
Phychoactive drugs are extremely dangerous harmful and are largely ineffective but they are prescribed like candy on halloween. The same way with vaccines. Medicine is a business so yup not banned because big pharma likes customers.
@Ozuye502

Well the obvious difference is that opioids actually work.
But guess what? Due to the increasing evidence that opioids may not be worth the costs, doctors are trying to figure out better ways to treat pain.

I’m not disagreeing with you, but it’s not governments’ job to protect you from yourself in something that you might do voluntarily.

I disagree entirely. It IS the government's job to protect its citizens from harmful treatments that don't actually work.
Especially when many of the people being "treated" are minors.

@Pikachu yea CBD oil actually works I know plenty of people that use it and it works

@Pikachu well government is nothing more than a bunch of morons I’ll give you that. But who are they to decide what goods and services should we the people have access to? Does a fancy title and a cushy office that taxation paid for says so? Not exactly. Does scientific research and evidence say yea I’ll go with that. But making something out right illegal just forces practices under ground and on to a black market and only influences the expansion of government. Although we don’t agree with the practice I’d rather see it done safely than in a dangerous manner. Think of it as abortion I don’t agree with the practice but I’d rather have the rights to have it done in a safer environment than put a woman’s life at risk in a back ally somewhere.

Well, depending on what country you live in, they are the people elected to make decisions for us as a society.

Could be. But by that logic we should ban trepanation or mercury for headaches.
Using that logic just doesn't work when it comes to treating people because that means we can't ban any harmful or ineffective treatment at all.
Maybe it will push it underground. Still better than allowing people to think a dangerous and ineffective procedure is ok.🤷

Ok I think we are too far apart on the political spectrum for this conversation not to turn into circle talk.

@Ozuye502 the problem is the vast majority put into convesion therapy are not there by choice. if someone is there by choice then that's fine but many parents seeing being gay as "wrong" force it on their kids
Ozuye502 · 36-40, M
@ladycae yes I agree that going through anything in a forced manner is wrong

@Ozuye502 In my opinion the only reason the LGBT person thinks they need "conversion therapy" is because they live in an intolerant society telling them that their consenting love for another consenting adult is wrong.

If the person thinks they need conversion therapy for being any of the LGBT categories, it is likely they have what's called internalized homophobia. That term comes about when the person has an internal conflict with the self mainly due to a lack of support network or being told that they have a mental disorder.

In some cases can even create hostility towards members of the LGBT community because the person in question was taught not to accept their true feelings and instead was taught that LGBT people are to be hated.
