How would a Republican President tackle crime?

I’m curious to know how a Republican senate/President would deal with

bank robbery?

protest?

drug related crimes ?

Shootings in public places?

Armed robberies?

Mass shootings?

School shootings?

Financial fraud?

Tax evasion ?

This stuff happens every day. regardless of who is in charge.
Would people still be arrested if caught committing the crimes?
From what I saw during Trumps Presidency armed Republicans patrolled the streets during protests and an African American was suffocated BY LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS during arrest before they were found guilty of any crime and all Trump did was to “praise patriotism”
Serious answers only please.

I’m a Democrat, but I imagine a typical Republican would suggest the measures mentioned by LordShadowfire, plus 1. Pass more right-to-carry laws, because if the good guys have guns then the bad guys will be afraid to shoot, and 2. Finish Trump’s wall, which will keep out the illegal immigrants that are committing so many of these crimes.
@Theyitis Right, I forgot those two key points. Build a wall and arm the citizenry against the migrant farm workers, lol.
Crazywaterspring · 61-69, M
@Theyitis Republicans never really have a plan. When things fall apart blame the Ds and get reelected. Ds come to office, somewhat fix things, the Rs claim credit get elected, repeat.

[c=004A59]We Need Charismatic Leadership by an Active Concerned Republican President who can Keep the Issues of Crime, (Especially Violent & Felony Crime), in the Forefront of the Daily Societal Dialogue.

One with the Will and Desire to Put Pressure, Propose a Citizen's Mandate upon Federal State and Local Leaders, Lawmakers, Officials, and Bureaucracy to Get Very Serious and Do Their Job or step aside.

The Social Will is a Powerful Thing, but it Needs a Real Leader. So a REPUBLICAN PRESIDENT, (or Any President in Office), Should Constantly be BRINGING CRIME and POLITICAL CORRUPTION into the DAILY DIALOGUE.

They should Remind and Encourage the Citizenry to Quit Putting Up with Crime at All Levels and Demand Governmental Action and Do as Needed to Fire or Vote Out if Office and Replace Useless Officials.

Especially Condemning the Idiotic "Defund the Police" Movements around the Country. Condemning the Progressive Movements that Encourage Release of Violent Criminals, Light Sentencing, and other Policies.

Propose and Encourage Much More Federal and State Level Funding for Policing, Speedy Prosecution and Incarceration or Serious Rehabilitation.

Reminding the Tax Paying Public that they Should Demand Better Law Enforcement and Accountability for their Tax Dollars, which are in Many Ways being Wasted by useless Officials and inept Bureaucrats in Expensive Misguided "Feel Good" Money Wasting Programs that have Never Produced Crime Reduction.

Just to Note: You can't, through Laws and Enforcement, get rid of all Crime / Illegal Activity, but You Can Make it Better by Changing the Public Mindset to a United One that No Longer Tolerates even the Pettiest Infraction.

It is Great to have a Public Will which Insists Upon Serious Policing and Law Enforcement Efforts, Rapid Procescution, Deterrent Punishment for the Crimes
BUT
Until EVERYONE is On Board from Children on Up to No Longer Be Tolerant or Turn a Blind Eye to even Simplest Crime, INSIST Everyone Obey the Law, and then Immediately Report, Condemn, Admonish, and Turn In the Criminal,
then Crime Will Just Stay at whatever Level the Public Tolerates and Law Enforcement will Never Rise Above that "ACCEPTABLE LEVEL" !![/c]

@Valerian Not sure if you remember but a so-called “caring Republican” was at the helm when the incident that started the BLM protests happened and he barely uttered a word in response.
@justanothername I'm just planning to ignore him until he can ask in a civilized manner. Calling me a shit-for-brains clown hat isn't a way to have honest discourse.
justanothername · 51-55, M
@LordShadowfire Republican and civilized generally don’t go in the same sentence together.
Tastyfrzz · 61-69, M
Try to not get caught while doing it. If caughr keep getting appeals and pack the courts with conservative judges that are compromised.
RodionRomanovitch · 56-60, M
@Tastyfrzz Very good. 👍
@Tastyfrzz Exactly right, as we’ve been seeing.
ChipmunkErnie · 70-79, M
Judging by past GOP Presidents, pardon co-conspirators, friends, and campaign contributors.
Adogslife · 61-69, M
What exactly does the police reaction to one African American (horribly failed/blundered arrest) have to do with a Republican presidency?

As a nation, we have laws on the books and a judicial system to deal with those questions. What’s the major concern if you’re not a criminal?

Two years hence and you’re still stinging from Trump? Why not worry about the bimbo presently in office?

You saw the BLM riots. How well do you think that went?
@Adogslife There were no "BLM riots." The rioting was mostly right wing gangs and unaffiliated people who just took advantage of the situation.
Adogslife · 61-69, M
@LeopoldBloom Wow. We must have different TV’s. 🤣
@Adogslife No, you were just watching Fox or some other right wing source that showed footage from Belarus and claimed it was the US. Unlike you, I know people who live in Portland and were at the demonstrations. All of the violence was from the cops or from right wingers.
BlueVeins · 22-25
having seen their rhetoric on crime, I can only assume their preferred solution is just dropping nerve gas on the slums their policies created to clear them out once every five years or so.
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
Make sure only the right people can get away with it..😷
Historically, Republicans have taken a much more restrictive posturing on t these crimes. Longer sentences, less parole opportunities and less early release.
MrBrownstone · 46-50, M
Democrats didn’t want police. What did they think would happen?
@MrBrownstone She was selling it on her Telegram channel.
MrBrownstone · 46-50, M
@LeopoldBloom So the first thing you said was a lie?
@MrBrownstone Her telegram channel isn't her website? Do you have evidence that someone stole her identity and is posting there without her knowledge?

@MalteseFalconPunch And higher property taxes. Jails run by corporations aren't cheap.
Northwest · M
Why would anyone think that the President, or for that matter a US Senator, or even a member of the US House, can control crime, at the local level?

They all make claims, but policing is at the local level: Mayor, city council and STATE house.
@Northwest I mean, we all took civics class, and we all theoretically should know how the various branches of government work, but when politicians talk to their constituents, there's a sort of hypnosis that goes on.
TexChik · F
Enforce the laws on the books as is their sworn duty . Bad guys go to jail. During the Trump presidency BLM burned, looted , and assaulted innocent people and yet, you mention nothing about it. Why is that?

An African American was NOT suffocated by law enforcement. He was a very large man, with a very violent felony record trying to make purchases with counterfeit currency (another felony). People have the right to expect law and order and protection from those who seek to do them harm or rob them. That's called civilization. Its unfortunate Floyd died as a result of his fentanyl OD . The officers did over do the force necessary to subdue him, but he would have died either way because of the OD. There can be no society without law and order.
Serious answers only, they would increase law enforcement on a street level, increase penalties for a lot of crimes, and never address the psychological issues that drive people to a life of crime. This would create a disenfranchised criminal class that can't even vote in certain states. And with enough people unable to vote under the new, tougher laws, hypothetically, the Republicans would keep power.

Somebody's going to come along and say that by telling you this, I'm saying all Democrats are criminals, or something stupid like that. No, the fact is, the only people who take an extreme conservative approach to solving the issue of crime in this country are people who have never been screwed by the system, or known anyone who has been.
@justanothername I know, but Republicans are so busy painting us liberals as the anti-cop anarchist thugs that they refuse to see the truth about police presence and the police state.

Unless a prominent politician is being prosecuted. Then they're all about defunding the feds.
justanothername · 51-55, M
@LordShadowfire sadly true.
@LordShadowfire Endorsements don't matter as much as they used to. They might make a difference in a very close race, but other factors could as well.

Obama sold a bunch of military hardware to local police forces, but nobody would call him a pro-police president.
Yeah... I get a laugh out of every political TV ad these morons put out.

Most of the "issues" they cite are not things they will have any responsibility or power to cure/fix.
IE: a mayoral candidate in a small Midwest city does not have anything to do with the wall at the southern border.........

It seems the ads are just "food for the base".
RedBaron · M
Crime and law enforcement are not the president's responsibility. Those are the jobs of district attorneys and police departments.
Oster1 · M
The ignorant Jackassery here, is astounding!

Are you all, really this stupid? 🙄
Theyitis · 36-40, M
@Oster1 Go ahead, enlighten us.
It's not important to succeed, it's important to crack down.
BackyardShaman · 61-69, M
I’m not sure, but as a party they condone violence.
By not defending the police, for starters.

Well the GQP has been running on an anti-crime platform since at least Nixon so they don't seem to have any ideas beyond just running on an anti-crime platform every election cycle

Reducing crime apparently is not the reason they want to attain power, extolling that is little but their means to attaining power, and using that power for other purposes
