Republicans always say we should focus on "mental illness" after a mass shooting

But republicans never do or propose any solutions for mental illness. In fact, they seem to block anything that is proposed. So if they don't want to do anything about the guns, and they won't do anything about the mental illness, does that say they are OK with elementary school kids being killed?

Republicans dont control Congress nor the White House the last 1.5 years. Nothing is stopping Democrats from passing anything.
Zaphod42 · 46-50, M
Except of course for the filibusters the republicans like to drop on anything the democrats propose 🤷‍♂️ @NatureGuy77
@NatureGuy77 Congress has passed dozens of bills which are all in Moscow Mitch's garbage can with the help of Manchin and Sinema.
NatureGuy77 · 51-55, M
@Pitchblue Sinema and Manchin are both Democrats.
@NatureGuy77 Not really, they are both opportunists and are pulling in a fortune from Republican Lobbyists.
NatureGuy77 · 51-55, M
@Pitchblue No, they’re Democrats. If they don’t always vote the company line that’s on Democrat leadership
@NatureGuy77 They exchange money for votes.
justanothername · 51-55, M
@NatureGuy77 Except Republican filibusters.
@NatureGuy77 Manchin’s also a conservative Democrat who often sides with the GOP. I don’t know if he’s ever been censured for doing so. The GOP, on the other hand, has censured Republicans who’ve sided with Democrats. They punish them for bipartisanship, even when it would benefit the country.

@NatureGuy77 except the filibuster!
NatureGuy77 · 51-55, M
@bijouxbroussard Which ones were censured for bipartisanship?
@NatureGuy77
Rep. Jaime Herrera Beutler (Wash.)
Rep. Liz Cheney (Wyo.)
Rep. Adam Kinzinger (Ill.)
Rep. Dan Newhouse (Wash.)
Rep. Tom Rice (S.C.)
Rep. Fred Upton (Mich.)
Rep. Peter Meijer (Mich.)
were all censured by their state GOP for voting with the Democrats to impeach Donald Trump in 2020, in spite of the fact that Mitch McConnell had told them all, " Vote your conscience."
NatureGuy77 · 51-55, M
@bijouxbroussard So voting to remove a legally elected President from office is bipartisanship. Ok. Did you feel the same way in 1997 when Clinton was impeached?
@NatureGuy77 You asked me who was censured by the GOP for bipartisanship and I gave you some names. 31 Democrats sided with the GOP for Clinton’s impeachment. There was no indication that they were censured for doing so. And speaking of a "legally elected president", Trump was the first former president to incite an insurrection against a legally held election—simply because he lost. 🙁
Slade · 56-60, M
@samueltyler2 Your kind has fucked this up. You have the majority.

Own it
OggggO · 36-40, M
@NatureGuy77 What the fuck does "legally elected" have to do with anything? The impeachment process exists for a reason.
@NatureGuy77
Nothing is stopping Democrats from passing anything.
Ever heard of conservative Democrats? Or should I co-opt a term from the right and call them DINOs?
NatureGuy77 · 51-55, M
@LordShadowfire They’re still Democrats and caucus with Democrats. If they’re supportive in some issue of conservative causes perhaps fellow Democrats have failed to educate them to a have more liberal stance. That’s not Republicans fault.
@NatureGuy77 I personally think they are being deceptive by running as Democrats. But you're right, it's not the Republican party's fault that these obstructionists exist within the Democratic party.
@NatureGuy77 That’s only because there are still conservative Democrats. Republicans ran all their centrists and liberals off because they want one single mode of thought, in lockstep with their party. That’s why only small percentages of minority groups are represented in the GOP. The one group that is over represented now in the GOP are white supremacists. That wasn’t always true, but it is now.
dakotaviper · 56-60, M
@NatureGuy77 I remember back in 1992, the Democrats won the Presidency and won the majority in the House and Senate. They passed their Assault Weapons Ban and it became Law in 1994. Then in November of 1994, the Democrats lost control of the House and the Senate. Currently they're running scared that it could happen again this coming November. Currently Inflation is drastically hindering their voter base and they simply do not care.
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
@dakotaviper the lack of a supermajority in the senate restricts what the dems can pass!
Slade · 56-60, M
@samueltyler2 gee, what a horrible shame
dakotaviper · 56-60, M
@samueltyler2 if that's the case, then why is Schumer the Senate Majority Leader. Oh that's right, the Vice President of the USA is the Senate Pro Tem. And Sanders always votes Left.
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
@dakotaviper i don't get your point, but since the idiotic filibuster rule was set, it makes the senate almost a useless legislative body.
dakotaviper · 56-60, M
@samueltyler2 who has used the filibuster the most.

In 2020, Democrats used the filibuster 327 times versus the Republicans using it only once.
Not a good track record there for the Democrats, yet they want to get rid of it.
