Well, it is time for prayers. The civil case will be a breeze, because when all is said and done there is ONE inescapable fact. SHE WAS STOPPED AT A STOP LIGHT.

In his DREAMS the perp might believe that Star not wearing shoes will make a difference...but his dream is about to turn into his NIGHTMARE.

Barefooter25 · 46-50, M
That flimsy excuse of her driving barefoot is not going to work. Driving barefoot is perfectly legal in all 50 states. I drive barefoot all the time and believe me, it's safer because your bare feet has a tighter grip on the pedals. Ask any barefooters on this site, and they will concur that driving barefoot is perfectly legal, even in Missouri.
Cigarguy · 41-45, M
@Barefooter25 yes we aren't worried at all plus my buddy was the top traffic accident and injury lawyer from his firm on the case.
ScreamingFox · 41-45, F
It can be cathartic to face the situation. Not easy, but once you see it all play out it strangely does feel better.

You will do great whatever you do.

But hopefully since he pled guilty you won't have to be involved at all.
Cigarguy · 41-45, M
@ScreamingFox no but we might have to be more involved in the civil case
1. You will do just fine. If you want reassurance, check out how OTHER people behave in court on YouTube channels.

2. The defense lawyer may try to get to you. Just tell yourself he/she is trying to get the guy who hurt Star a sweet deal and don’t let him/her.
Cigarguy · 41-45, M
@Mamapolo2016 yeah I feel like the criminal case will be just fine it's the civil case that's going to be a bit more intense. Apparently they are claiming that she broke quite a few laws herself for not having her shoes on having her music too loud sitting too close to the steering wheel having her phone connected to her Bluetooth and they claim her brake lights weren't working.
@Cigarguy Here’s one relief at least. According to The Zebra website:

It is, in fact, legal to drive a car, pickup truck, or similar vehicle without footwear in all 50 states. In the 1990s, a man named Jason Heimbaugh wrote to each of the 50 states’ departments of motor vehicles to make sure of it. Some took a long time to respond, but eventually, all confirmed that barefoot driving is indeed legal. Since then, the laws have remained the same.
.

2nd, if she was rear-ended, how could they tell if her brake lights were working or not? They may have been damaged in the collision.
Cigarguy · 41-45, M
@Mamapolo2016 yeah she was stopped at a red light, had her belt on has insurance. Her music wasn't very loud and I have no idea why she likes to drive without her shoes on. and they have proved that she only used her phone after she got hit. She tried to call her dad but he was in court then she called me.

@geoam1 I'm not sure either I'm just going to prepare in case I do. But we've heard the driver of the other car said I turned her phone off and messaged with the radio and put her seat belt on. They want to settle with him only facing criminal charges and nothing else
hippyjoe1955 · 70-79, M
If the plea has been guilty on all counts then the only thing you could and Star could be called on to give in impact statements. How the guilty person's actions has impacted your lives.
Cigarguy · 41-45, M
@hippyjoe1955 wee might have to testify for the civil case for who much damages she gets. They are saying many incorrect things that never happen.

@H1raeth they have nothing at all I really don't know why they are even trying
Confined · 56-60, M
Its good he is pleading guilty. He deserves to be put in front of a firing squad. Hope there is a lot of money coming her way.
Cigarguy · 41-45, M
@Confined I just want to get this all over with
BabyLonia · F
If he has plead guilty there will be no need for court witnesses it will go straight to sentencing
Cigarguy · 41-45, M
@BabyLonia this might be for the Civil Case. Not the criminal case
Lilnonames · F
request to have her testify in the judges chambers
Cigarguy · 41-45, M
@Lilnonames from the way I understand it she can have a written statement for the criminal trial but she might have to get on the witness stand for the civil case that we are filing as well
