You Nimrods!

For the longest time, I wondered how the contemporary use of the word "Nimrod" came about. It is commonly used to refer to someone who is foolish. But the only reference I was familiar with was the biblical one, in Genesis 10, where Nimrod is presented as a noble figure.

Cush was the father of Nimrod, who was the first potentate on the earth. He was a mighty hunter before the Lord; that is why it is said, “Like Nimrod, a mighty hunter before the Lord.” The first centers of his kingdom were Babylon, Uruk, Akkad and Kalneh, in Shinar.

I just learned the explanation:

Everytime I hear that word I think of Leonard Nimoy aka Spock from star trek. It sounds like a biblical admonishment term so all diehard Jesus followers should know it I'd suspect.

I read the title and assumed you were talking to me directly 🫣💩

What is a Nimrod? It's not a word we use in my neighbourhood.

Similarly, "bless your heart" is shifting into insult territory.

Nimrod was a tyrant is really what Genesis says.
