For the longest time, I wondered how the contemporary use of the word "Nimrod" came about. It is commonly used to refer to someone who is foolish. But the only reference I was familiar with was the biblical one, in Genesis 10, where Nimrod is presented as a noble figure.
Cush was the father of Nimrod, who was the first potentate on the earth. He was a mighty hunter before the Lord; that is why it is said, “Like Nimrod, a mighty hunter before the Lord.” The first centers of his kingdom were Babylon, Uruk, Akkad and Kalneh, in Shinar.
