what's your accent? i might sound funny like a goose...but i don't know.

i'm in western canada but it's definitely different than those of eastern/atlantic canada... i love some southern american accents and the aussies and kiwis and some brits...but who the hell can understand the scottish?

I’m a Geordie, every time I’ve been to America I’ve been asked if I’m Scottish
PunkRockSuperStar · 56-60, M
@SW-User Geordie is very distinctive, but also similar in a lot of ways to Lowland Scots since both developed from Old Northumbrian.
@SW-User i had to look up geordie... interesting

Lots of different scotts accents. Not all are harsh and hard to understand. Some are very soft and beautiful.
Im Welsh, but dont sound anything like how Welsh people are often portrayed on tv or film.
@RubySoo i was in germany one time many years ago at some festival. i heard some guys speaking in what thought was an english accent so i asked them if they were from england and one guy turns around and got all pissy with me... angrily he said "no...wales!!!!!"
RubySoo · 56-60, F
@beermeplease yeap....we do that!!!
Lol. All the time!!
@RubySoo haha...when i was in germany and getting my hair cut the lady cutting my hair asked where i was from. i told her to guess by my accent....she said england? i said no. ireland? no ....scotland? no australia? no...new zealand ? no...america? no. she then said she gives up. i told her i'm canadian. she said oh! i always wanted to visit canada..... but that wasn't even any of her guesses 🤣

Scottish aren’t too bad. I’m from the Black Country in the UK and the thickest of those accents can be hard to understand.
Gangstress · 41-45, F
Im northern English
US Eastern seaboard. I grew up hearing Walter Cronkite, Huntley & Brinkley, Peter Jennings, Dan Rather, and Tom Brokaw (major network news anchors) as the definitive examples of correct speech.

Nobody can understand the Scots. Lol. I need a translator whenever I hear them talk.

I have what's called a General (or Standard) American accent. It's typically the way American radio and TV broadcasters speak.

Im a kiwi. I think our accents are flat. Were no where near the aussies. Maybe if you took the air out if an aussie tire thats what the kiwi accent would be.
@Isthisit i like kiwi accents 🥝

I’m from the North East of England, I can generally understand Scottish people, but my girlf can’t at all, it’s so funny.
Fairydust · F
lol 😂

I’m Northern England and ours is probably hard to understand.
ImpeccablyImperfect · 51-55, F
@Fairydust Admittedly, I have a harder time with the Irish accent than a Scottish one. 😉

@ImpeccablyImperfect
Lol my family are Scottish so I understand it clearly.
GypsyMiss · 41-45, F
Agreed! I lived in the UK for 4 years and struggled more often with a thick Scottish accent.

Depends where in Scotland you mean? And if you think Scotland is tough, try Belfast 😜
Midwestern us. People in foreign lands never seem to know if I'm Canadian or American.

@Lilnonames a welcoming voice 🤗
A mix between Pacific Northwesterner and upper midwesterner, with a smidgen of mid Atlantic thrown in.
@NativePortlander1970 quite the mix...you might sound funnier than me 🤪

@PunkRockSuperStar i know several people who think the same about some of their accents.. i believe they make up 14% of our population...if you feel the need to call me ignorant and insulting again i suggest you block me....i am not ignorant, nor am i insulting
