@SW-User No. Nihilism is the rejection of religion and moral principles in the belief that life is meaningless. I believe life is meaningless, but I don't reject moral principles.

@sleepyhead You haven't read much Nietzsche, have you? He never rejected moral principles yet he is purported to be the author of Nihilism.

@SW-User Yes. I break it down in to its parts and see if I agree with them. Which I don't. It's pretty simple stuff.

@SW-User Well, you can find my words however you want to. Your interpretation of them has nothing to do with me. And if you categorise them as "essentially nihilistic" when I've just explained, quite clearly, that I am not nihilistic, then that is your misunderstanding, not mine.

@SW-User I love and care for my family and friends. I don't break laws or societal rules. I give to worthwhile charities. I'm honest in my day to day work. Those are all moral based judgements I live by, regardless of whether I believe life has any meaning or not.

But I'm not sorry if that messes up your definition of a word or a box you'd like to put me in. I don't feel obliged to care every single time I have offended or upset someone. I'm afraid that's the world we live in, you should get used to it.

It doesn't; I just didn't like your usage of religion. I'm going to quote a Canadian poet:

@SW-User Well I'll talk about religion in whatever context I like, that's my right, I'm afraid. If it offends someone then that is literally their problem, not mine. I'm offended every time someone insults my intelligence by trying to tell me God exists, but I don't make a song and dance about it, I just accept that is their choice to believe whatever they want to.

Personally I don't disagree with the quote you've posted. Religions do give people comfort and solace. They also cause wars and incredible suffering. Just because religions sometimes do some good for people doesn't mean it's something people can't or shouldn't mock.

@sleepyhead People cause wars, understand that please. Religion is also a construct of people. I think I need to quote Pink Floyd here, 'you think you can tell heaven from hell, blue skies from rain, cold comfort to change.'

And if it's your right to speak in whatever context, then it's equally mine to say something different to you.

@SW-User People cause wars because of religious beliefs, that is a fact, as opposed to a belief. you can quote as many scholars, poets, songwriters or philosophers as you like, nothing changes facts.
