Maybe the next referendum should be to decide for or against turning off the internet for a while.

Let’s take things back to how they were in the mid 90s until everyone gets themselves clean.

My town's libraries were very good, and despite severe financial pressures the BBC's radio choice and contents still are of enormous value!

Anyway I don't think nostalgia is the OP's point.....

Perhaps not turn off the internet. That is only the electronic system and does allow carrying genuinely valuable material.

Turning off blogs and [often anti-]social-media might be salutary, though it won't change people's characters and beliefs.

Don't turn off the "dark web " and "cypto-currency" just for "a while": do so permanently.

Mid 90's:

The only place that had internet was the public library. And it was crap.

Mobile phones only worked as long as you were within 3 blocks of the cell tower.

CD players were becoming a thing but the cassette tape was king. How many hours did you spend recording songs off of the radio?

Blockbuster was great too. It was more then just picking a film but a chance to socialize, watch the trailers, and maybe bring home some over priced snacks.

There were only 4 channels on the tv and people either didn't care about what was on or they could record it, when they went outside on the weekends...

How bout a compromise, bring back flip phones. The ones that took three minutes to text a message longer than "ok"
