What is the best piece of advice you have ever been given?

Mine was : "Take nothing for granted. Check and double check."

I was the caretaker of an old church. One very cold night I opened the valve to fill the boiler tank with water so it wouldn't run out during the night. Unfortunately, instead of closing the valve, I turned it wide open.
By morning, the pit that the furnace was in was completely flooded, extinguishing the boiler of course, leaving us with a very, very cold church.
Several of us young men bailed out the pit while the service was conducted in the adjoining room, with everyone bundled up against the frigid northern winter.
That's when the pastor gave me that advice that I have never forgotten.

"Always do the maximum, and not the minimum." My mother used to say it all the time, and I discovered as I moved through life that I had been TRAINED in that mindset. It has stood me in good stead at home and with my employers.

Another good piece of advice from my sister, the nurse: If it's wet and it's not yours, dont touch it!

Trust makes you vulnerable and that's dangerous.

@kodiac Mistrust makes you isolated and appear suspicious.

@kodiac The 2nd best (maybe 1st🤔) advice I ever got was "Treat everyone like an angel until they prove themselves to be a devil."

Cut my mother out of our lives
Why stand when you can sit; why sit when you can lie down.

When you go away on vacation, never assume that you're not going to meet someone that you'll want to spend some time with while you're there.
