A genuinely impressive human being

I was reading a story at the weekend about a young guy working on a supermarket checkout who was serving an old woman who, when it came to paying, didn’t appear to be able to. Her card was declined twice and without thinking and without making sure everyone knew about it, the young guy used his phone to pay for the old lady’s shopping. It was only the woman in the queue behind the old woman that spotted what he did.

It’s such a heart warming thought that there’s people out there who are like that.

I honestly believe there are many such decent souls out there. It's so easy to be cynical about humanity, so it's good to hear about the kind, selfless folks among us and what they've done for others. We can't hear their stories too often.

@Claire2k That's another beneficial thing about hearing of the good deeds by others. They can inspire the rest of us to do good and be better people.

Quite often when I’m in town, I see homeless people and I feel sorry for them and want to offer them some cash, but I’m very nervous about approaching them, some of them look very scary 😟 @Rutterman

@Claire2k That's understandable. I'd be apprehensive about it too.
Kindness is more beautiful, than anything else in this world.
Beautiful. Those stories are such a blessing for the spirit.

Experienced something quite similar myself.
It was many years ago, and I found myself short of money at a theater performance in Chicago. The young man at the concessions kiosk quietly took up the item I'd been considering, and approached me. Saying : "We had a little extra left over" passing it to me.
I thanked him warmly, stunned.
Though the act pales in significance to the elderly woman at the grocery checkout, I believe these two young men shared the same heart and spirit of humanity.

That was 26 years ago. But the gesture continues to bring the same tears to my eyes, and warmth to my heart, as on that very day.
They say people won't remember you for what you did; but how you made them feel. And I see that young man's face often.

Wow that is just so inspiring, and what a GOOD person he is. I really love hearing things that show humanity's strength and compassion.🌼🌹

Absolutely agree - what amazed me was the lack of fuss - he only did it to help the person - no thoughts about self gain. @Coralmist

@Claire2k Wish more were like that. Thanks for sharing.🌺

I heard about a guy during the Australian Bush fires, who rather than donating to one of the many organisations trying to take credit for other people’s kindness - he actually went out to the area and directly gave $500 to 10 different households - he wasn’t wealthy, just an ordinary guy - I thought that was impressive too! 😌@Coralmist

I love when people do that and don't brag about it. That's sweet!

@Claire2k I read something once abut how you never know what someone else is going through so you should always be kind.

That really hit home cuz I used to think some people were just... ugh! But when I thought about what they might be going through it gave me a lot more patience and compassion.

It’s difficult to be nice to some people tho - if they act like an idiot, you just wanna treat them like an idiot!! 😬@Ksmile14

@Claire2k Yeah sometimes. And some people are just plain mean. I just try to ignore them but sometimes that's soooooo hard to do! 😜

A random act of kindness like that deserves to be noticed..😷

Yeah I agree - I mean it’s so so rare to hear about something like that.@whowasthatmaskedman
