Are you one of those people who go by a slightly different name to what’s on your birth certificate?

I am. Just because my first name in full sounds a little old fashioned to me, whereas the short version is more modern and I prefer it.

I shortened my name while at school because Teachers couldn't spell it correctly.

Same with employers as an adult.

Your name is your identity. If those you're supposed to respect don't take that seriously you wonder what else they miss.

I tend to go by the shortened version of my first name

My name is Hunkleberry Aloysius Love. I usually go by "Mildred."
My kids when I told them I was legally changing my name to Crush Daddy........

I prefer the shorten version of my name as it is not as formal.

Was called Chip and still am to this day but not my given name

Most of us Americans, go by a modified version of what's on our birth certificate.

James is Jim
Edward is Ed
Joseph is Joe or Joey
John is Jack
....

Europeans seem to be always confused about this.

@Northwest We’re not confused, it’s just less common.

I went to court and changed my middle name to my first name and took my mom's maiden name as my middle in my 20's. I got rid of the fucked up 1st name they gave me and love my middle now first name so fixed it.

The only people to use my full first name are my parents (when they are annoyed) and my aunt who always uses every full names
Go by my full first name. Not really a short version of it
Yes. Only work call me by my birth name, and even then, only when we have to be formal.
HotPizza71 · 51-55, M
