Our whole house was woken up at 3:20am by cows in a nearby field having a group panic attack.
This is rural England so the biggest local predators not hunted to extinction are badgers and foxes. The guy who owns the farm said nobody had been down the track to our area since I got home late yesterday. So whatever was bugging the cows at 3am is a mystery.
The farmer said the cows had all formed a circle and looked ready to bolt en masse. And initially they didn’t respond to him and his son in law at all.
The only thing I can think of was there’s a base 15ish miles south that hosts 3 fighter squadrons. Night time exercises are not uncommon. Maybe a night time low and fast fly past caused it. But none of us heard a jet.
