The tap water in my apartment tastes bad the last month or so...

...I'm tired of buying bottled water.
Should i purchase a walter filter or water purifier for this issue? 🤔

If you can, get a bone ash filter (also called a fluoride filter) that will mount inline. They are fairly cheap and in most cases they help. If you want to get really crazy, place a charcoal filter after the bone ash filter. Current prices may not be the same, but I spent about $15 per filter recently. They handle thousands of gallons.
Living in an apartment, you may not want to go that route. I would get a filter based purifier. At least you can take it with you if you leave.
@UnderLockDown For the sake of knowing, I tested the tap at 1100ppm. After running it through one bone ash filter, it was down to 300ppm. That's a lot of dissolved solids being removed!! 👍 Tap water is nasty.

I used to have a Brita water filter for my faucet. I had the chrome one and it broke. Maybe I should've gotten the white one? Maybe it would've been more sturdy. Quite honestly, I'm tired of buying water bottles too. I don't have recycling close to me that would be convenient to toss. I'm not even a recycling person, but it does take a toll tossing all those bottles eventually. And the price adds up. Something else I used to do was fill my pitcher with tap water and put it in the fridge until a friend of mine told me what was in tap water, so I guess I'm looking for other options too. I live in an apartment—super hard water. I guess I might consider getting another filter myself eventually.

@sweetiepoo I got a horrible case of sciatica that lasted for 3 months the last time I bought a 36-count case of bottled water. I only get it if the boy is with me, he is taller than me and strong enough to lift them.

@cherokeepatti Wow, I'm so sorry to hear that.

@sweetiepoo Well that experience alone makes it worth buying a good in-home water filter. I bought those bottles of water for an emergency in case the water is off for awhile.

I have a Berkey water filter system. Due to supply line issues it’s getting harder to find replacement filters. They’ll get a shipment in every month-6 weeks and they are sold out within a day or two. I found a pair of fluoride filters on EBay that were new and got them yesterday for about the same price Berkey sells them for. Did good to find one pair.

Yes it would be worth the investment, for better health.
You also could contact the local water services department and request a water purity check.

@SW-User I think my city needs this. I didn’t know it was an option
SW-User
@DeluxedEdition I do believe every city has it, but i could be wrong, depending on country i guess

contact your utility service and explain your issue there may be a problem when it is purified and filtered or perhaps your pipes [iamnikki]

I used to buy plastic water bottles, but I was so annoyed and how much plastic I was throwing in the recycle bin. So I bought a set of glass bottles off of Amazon and purchased a Brita filter. Works great for me.

@ShadowSister That's what I used to have. I might have to invest in another one.

If there is a sudden change in the taste of your water, then it may be a good idea to get the water tested. Otherwise a water filter is a good idea.
WaryWitchWandering · 36-40, F
Yeah, they even sell pitchers with filter insert. You fill it and put it in fridge, voila
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@WaryWitchWandering that type of filter will not remove fluoride, chlorine or arsenic.
sweetiepoo · 36-40, F
@WaryWitchWandering I had one of those in college. It worked great. I think for me now it isn't big enough for me unless they make bigger pitchers now.
Depends on why it tastes bad. There could be things in it a filter can't remove. So I'd get it tested first. But a filter can at least help.
You should find out about getting it tested, but a filter is a good first step.

I'd also notify the landlord and the water department.

Yes, they're much cheaper than bottled water, and just as good

Water filters work very well, from my experience

I use a water filter and it's better than always buying bottled waters.
