What style of refrigerator do you prefer?

Hmm, French door, Side-by-side, or Freezer on top? I'm in the maket for a new refrigerator and I'm kind of torn between the side-by-side and the French door/freezer on the bottom (I currently have a freezer on top fridge that's been here since I moved in 20 years ago). Ultimately, I need to find something reputable with an ice maker that fits in the space.

Just checking for some reviews on what you have. ☺️

I spent my career trying to learn all of carpentry
I've done a few remodels over the last 45 years. As far as cool how's I like the Samsung freezer on bottom . But most all refrigerators are the same fundamentally. The fancier to of the line may have more electronics but that's also more to repair sometimes. If look at all in the style you think you want freezer on bottom say, then do you want stainless or nickel finish it just white finish. Then there's smooth surface, textured, brush steel finish or buffed. Inside the mechanics is a compressor evaporator, fan motor and refrigerant lines plus a thermostat to tell your fridge to cycle that kicks out of and on like air conditioner. I think LG is ok but over priced. Samsung has strong backing. The thing is like TVs they are all made on the western edge of the Pacific rim Indonesia etc. Some may be assembled in the US. And honestly GE is what if buy. I lust for the fancy ones but GE is strong employs a lot of Americans and it's easy enough to work on it you do have trouble. A replacement request doesn't spend six months at sea
Read all the reviews you can..... (keeping in mind that most people who write reviews either LOVE the product or HATE the product).

I would also pay a lot of attention to the requirements for periodic FILTER changes on the ice maker..... what they cost and availability.

I have a Frigidaire, freezer on top, no ice maker. Purchased mainly because it was the only refrigerator in stock and available that was in the finish required to match the rest of my kitchen (stainless look). And....it was relatively inexpensive.

Having said that ....I've been really pleased with it.
@Threepio Good advice. Thanks.

Freezer on top lasts a lot longer than the other styles. The freezer on the bottom is the worst type of all. If you want a really efficient ice box a chest type is available, often used in RV’s due to being low-energy and holds a lot without anything falling out. They can be set to be used as a refrigerator or set colder to be a freezer depending on what you want.
@cherokeepatti Yeah, it seems so based on the life of my current freezer on top unit. Thanks for the feedback.
I don't like the side by side. To me the wall down the middle is wasted space. I have french doors with the ice maker/water dispenser and freezer on the bottom. The only thing I don't like about it is the constant reminder to replace the expensive water filter in it.
French door stainless, but side by side is ok too.

Dream unit is Jen air counter depth or Sub zero.
@SethGreene531 Sub zero sounds waaaay over my price range. 😄
@DreamyCrush And mine too...but we can dream...sigh

I think jenaire or frigidaire are little more reasonable, even kitchen aid

The 50s retro units are back and made new...they look great

I prefer the french door style. I owned a small chest style freezer for about 10 years and I hated having to bend over and root around for the food.

French door, freezer on bottom and a ice box drawer above it works great for the little ones

We have a side by side refrigerator. I wouldn't want one with the freezer on the bottom.

Go look at some and see what you like.
@RedBaron I did, and was stunned by some of the prices. As mentioned, I like the side by side and the French door.

@DreamyCrush It's a major purchase, but it should serve you for 10-20 years.
