What's the most shocking Christmas gift did you receive?

Today, my boss told me to check my email via chat.

Well, the company didn't care about the holiday spirit.

They sent me a letter to sign which briefly explained that they're ending my contract earlier on the second week of January.

They could have done it after the New Year, like January 2, right?

My contract is supposed to expire on February 16.

It's incredible the lack of consideration. I however think the notification should have been given before Christmas. I worked for a company that did their layoffs the first week of the year. The employees had spent their money on the holidays and didn't see it coming. Employees are just another commodity in doing business and they don't give a damn how their decisions affect them.

@Gibbon true. some companies are heartless. well, it's all about business. If they don't like me, I don't like them too!

@1sakuradoll08 I don't think it's a matter of like. Unless of course it's a small company where personal interactions play a bigger snooty role.
I think it's adout company needs and functional requirements and capabilities. I survived all those layoffs. The first one happened my first year there. I felt a kind of internal shame and anger at the same time. The only time I experienced a layoff was when a company I worked at for 14 years closed our division. 50% were let go day one. I was given 3 months notice. The last ones out were on 4 months notice. Everyone however got a three month severance package and the ability to Cobra their health insurance. Everyone also was given relocation options and job location training. I was at a salary level from longevity I knew I would not obtain in the hiring market for my position. I took a big cut in finding new work.

I think it was last year there was a CEO who held a video call and laid off a bunch of people during the holidays. These people are ruthless

@deadgerbil the question is that you recieved
In 1987, at a company Christmas party, the announcement was made that our department was closing beginning in January. People were shocked and crying. A friend from another department suggested I rush in a transfer there, which I did. At break time, everyone began sending in transfers and applying for work elsewhere.

By January 1988, everyone had transferred, retired or quit—sooner than they anticipated. It served the company right.
