What do you feel when random people from your past suddenly message after years of no contact? Do you respond? or just ignore?

Heartlander · 80-89, M
:) Every 3 or 4 years I receive an e-mail from an old high school classmate telling me how we were such great friends, reminding me of all the great times wh had in high school and that he wants to reconnect and close the gap.

I respond and validate his feelings and invest 4 or 5 paragraphs to bring him up to date to tell him about my life since those good old days.

And I don't hear from him again for another 3 or 4 years when he goes back to step 1 :)

I have mixed feelings about reconnecting. It's great to say hi again, but there's probably also good reason why you grew apart. For me, a reconnection may help keep me connected to my roots, but unlikely that I will pick up where we left off. We've both become different people over the years.

I will always respond, if I can recognize them. You can respond it formally/casually if you don't want to get involved with them.
FrozenWasteland · 61-69, M
Unless there was some really good reason to be suspicious, I'd be curious enough to want to find out why they were reconnecting that I'd respond.

I've done the same when I stumbled across someone I haven't talked to in ages.

Most of the time in the last few years, it's been either because they were looking for work or because they had work they thought I might be interested in.

I wonder what's their sneaky agenda I'm unaware of. 🤔
Assuming we got along back then, it's nice to hear how they've been and what they are up to now.
Casheyane · 31-35, F
@NerdyPotato But if it's someone in the same circle but you were never closed with? I don't know. I guess I'm wary. Cause I can name some people who only message because they need money or something. Some tend to prolong conversation, pretend they want to know only to end up selling stuff. It's... not something I want to deal with at the moment.
@Casheyane if that's their goal, they'll end up disappointed.
Casheyane · 31-35, F
@NerdyPotato I replied. I think I scared him away by being honest haha.
Thevy29 · 41-45, M
Like on Facebook? I'm not interested in becoming friends of friends unless I already know them in reality.
Casheyane · 31-35, F
@Thevy29 Maybe. Possibly.

But yeah, I guess fb is where it tends to happen the most.
ravenwind43 · 51-55, F
I responded. It was deflating. Learned my lesson. It was how it was supposed to go is how I choose to look at it.:)
thepreposterouspanda · 36-40, M
It never really happens. :)
thepreposterouspanda · 36-40, M
@Casheyane Don't really have much of one of those anymore either.
Casheyane · 31-35, F
@thepreposterouspanda wanting to work on one? I think we reach the point sooner or later.
thepreposterouspanda · 36-40, M
@Casheyane Unsure. Part of me does and the other part of me is just exhausted and feels like hiding from everything. It's a hard thing to balance. :)
WhateverWorks · 36-40
Depends on the message. If we were on good terms I’d reply.
Starcrossed · 41-45, F
Usually surprised. It doesn't happen hardly ever. I usually respond.
