Why are people afraid of clowns? I've never understood that.

No idea [image deleted]

It may be something that continues from childhood - many young children are repulsed by clowns because of their lurid make-up,weird hair, bizarre clothing and what they see as their peculiar behaviour.

I think some people are freaked out by disguises in general. I actually know someone who got into a fight with a clown, they ended up in custardy.

@PaleandPolluted I guess that could be. But I still don't understand the "clown phobia". 🤷‍♀️

beats me, they're just as squishy as anyone else when you run them over in your car... 🤔

Political or circus?
ArishMell · 70-79, M
No, I've never understood it either, but many people do have curious phobias that seem to defy rational explanation. I suppose it's just another example of one of those.

@YukikoAmagi That made me laugh. Such a happy clown. The only danger from that clown is keeping you awake by laughing. 😅

I grew up with "pretty" clowns, but the ones with dramatic make-up were more popular at circuses and such. I could see that being startling to a small child.

There's a certain psychopathic energy that they give off.
It makes people feel uncomfortable.
