Maybe leave them alone as they exist for their own reason. Growing up our garden was full of dandelions, daisies and buttercups. Very nice.

Unless you use chemicals on your lawn, your neighbor's dandelions will keep seeding your lawn with pesky dandelions.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@4meAndyou Back when I was growing up
Kids helped dig them up
4meAndyou · F
@cherokeepatti And then there are the wild birds, to think of, too. My mother had a stockade fence on the side where the neighbors had dandelions. That helped a little bit.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@4meAndyou the fence doesn’t keep
The seeds from flying since the winds can carry them.
Adrift · 61-69, F
The wild rabbits seem to take care of most of the ones I get.

roots are good for liver- tea , leaves for salat -oil and lemon juice as spice , flowers deep frying in flour 🤗really testy as it only last for a month or so.
Khenpal1 · M
@cherokeepatti here they will be gone in 2-3 weeks . Honey made syrup on flowers is pure bliss 😊
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@Khenpal1 you have a short season. I have seen dandelions (maybe one or two) November, December and January here with a bloom or two on them, sometimes we have warm spells in the winter. They’ll bloom from spring-fall.
Khenpal1 · M
@cherokeepatti climate is different here , but nettles are here until late November.
You would dislike me. My yards are scrappy. I let the dandelions grow. I live in a small town. And the dirt and gravel from the managers' snowplows ruins what grass I have. I was thinking of lessening the grass by increasing the flower beds.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@PoetryNEmotion I bet you could grow some pretty flowers, mixed wildflowers or zinnias (very easy to grow) etc.
@cherokeepatti I have 2 green thumbs so yes. I had some nice milkweed growing last year. Was going to thin them out. Someone pulled them out. Certainly underhanded.

I love the yellow that accents my yard.
Also, our friends, the ever dwindling bees, need them. Unpoisoned.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@Carla I didn’t either. Also watched a sparrow walk up to a dandelion that had gone to seed, put its foot out to bend the stem over and then pick the seeds off and eat them. So they have a lot of good uses.
Carla · 61-69, F
@cherokeepatti indeed.
And they add some color to your lawn.
I don't understand peoples hatred of them. I welcome them.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@Carla because they take over and when you mow the yard the next day stems shoot up and then yard gets overgrown again.
Virgo79 · 61-69, M
Live with them, i was talking about picking some eariler and frying up a batch😋
Pretty tasty
Oster1 · M
Eat the greens and roots! they are your friends! 😊
Oster1 · M
@cherokeepatti That sounds wonderful. I'm intrigued. Ground beef? Very interesting! 😊💐
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@Oster1 yes ground beef, seems simple enough I haven’t done it yet. Thinking the boy will go to town on it. I have the parchment paper and everything else needed to make it. Need to do it by the weekend.
Oster1 · M
@cherokeepatti This is so exciting. Please let me know! how it went! 😊

This thing has 36,000 reviews for a reason....it makes pulling dandelions easier...

Virgo79 · 61-69, M
@fun4us2b that would definately be easier if it works well....
May have to spend some time in the barn making one🙂
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@fun4us2b I have a Fiskar dandelion tool that I like to use
chibs · 61-69, M
Fun factoid: The name is from french: dent de lion (lion's tooth).

I assume it refers to the shape of the leaf
metaldog · 51-55, F
make tea out of them
metaldog · 51-55, F
@cherokeepatti yes that would be great, you could even sell it
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@metaldog I have a dehydrator and could dry them out for a supply touse year round
metaldog · 51-55, F
@cherokeepatti great idea!!
caPnAhab · 26-30, M
If you eat the dandelions... could you be killing two birds with one stone? 🤔
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@caPnAhab there are yard chemicals accumulated in the soil so nope not gonna do that
caPnAhab · 26-30, M
@cherokeepatti oh that makes sense. I wouldn't either.. but I would otherwise
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@caPnAhab If it was soil that never had chemicals on it I wouldn’t mind making greens for dinner or dehydrating them
