Why are conservatives against Universal healthcare?

Because their religion teaches them that jesus heals, so if you are sick and injured, it is because you oppose god and deserve it.
Wiseacre · F
@Iwillwait Your opinion. And you don't speak for any but yourself. Religion is scam, and that is why there are so many of them. Correct yourself.
@Iwillwait All would be from god. That would be the creator if a creator existed.

A belief that "others" are undeserving.

And in the United States, plenty of misinformation and ignorance regarding the level of care that citizens of nations that have universal healthcare receive.
Adogslife · 61-69, M
Conceptually it’s not an issue. However, government program tends to inflate the cost beyond that provided by the free market.

Also, conservatives would love everyone to have medical care, but who is going to pay that burden? Who pays for part time employees? Where does a small mom and pop shop get the money to pay for the health care cost(s) of their staff?

Put it in a similar category as forgiving college loans. It’s a nice concept, but it’s an unfair burden placed on the middle class. They’re the ones that are going to pay for the lion’s share of the costs - directly or indirectly.

@Adogslife Actually, evidence shows that the American so-called "free market" system is far more costly than single payer systems in other industrialized countries while their systems cover everyone and provide better morbidity and mortality outcomes. It is the fee-for-service piece-meal pricing of health care that encourages over-charging and milking of the system, the advertising/marketing/bureaucracy of competing health insurers and providers, and the fact that huge percentages of the population go without insurance and refuse to seek early health care, waiting until more expensive life-saving services are required that drives up costs.

As for who pays, it already is on the middle class. Those who do not have private insurance coverage through their employers wind up being covered by Medicaid and county hospital ERs, both coming out of public taxes that fall disproportionally on the middle class.

Because healthcare is a powerful billionaire industry in the U.S. Why would they want to destroy that?
@SW-User There have been and still are powers and people who oversee and run your government. They’re not your president or Congress.
Allegedly, much of what the world experiences and suffers from or is adversely affected by could have been stopped at least a hundred years ago. Two things…power and money have kept us where we are.

Universal means "Social," "Social," means a collpase in our Capitolism/Economy as we know it.

They don't think people who aren't just like them are human.

why would they want something that would cut the profit down. when they are for profit hospitals and for profit doctors.. and dont forget for profit meds.. cut the cost down and they will make less money... its generally about the money
spjennifer · 61-69, T
Because many if not most of them have stocks in the Healthcare system and they would lose huge investments if it were to become easily available to anyone at little cost. It's all about the $$$
Ontheroad · M
They claim it's all about the cost - you know, financial responsibility. Which, if you take a look at the numbers, is unadulterated B.S. It is much less expensive to care for and provide for preventive care than to treat, which by law, has to be done, if they present with any illness or injury.

So, in all honesty, the only reason I can come up with is they are the party of "you aren't like me, so you don't matter".

They have been brainwashed by this horrible reality we've created.. and Fox 'news' and all the other hateful conservative tv and radio and so called christians believing all their bullshit. Hateful people gravitate to the republican party, and sadly the u.s. is teeming over with hateful pricks and women. My county voted 75% for Trump I'm surrounded by creeps and crazies..
Bang5luts · M
Because it takes tax payers money out of conservatives pockets.. We can't have that no can we?
Briggett · T
@Bang5luts and they want you to have something they for free or almost free
Bang5luts · M
@Briggett exactly. Why should tax prayers expect anything for free! Ffs
BackyardShaman · 61-69, M
Most of them don’t want changes
I think most are leery of anything handed out by the government. A common saying is nothing is free, there are always strings attached with government money, which for them means less autonomy.
@midnightrose An irony, since conservatives use the government to control the most private issues, like the marriage and reproductive choices of total strangers.
Question those conservatives you know are opposed, and find out. Not all “conservatives” are opposed to it.
Rolexeo · 26-30, M
Cause they dont think it's financially feasable, not cause they hate people
Wiseacre · F
Because it's UNameriican..
Mainly because they believe they’re the ones paying the bill. They’re under the impression that they’re the only ones paying taxes, and that those taxes are better spent on things like war and big business, than healing or education for their countrymen.
Fukfacewillie · 56-60, M
They can’t stand helping people.

They want to find a way to make a buck off of everything

If you fell overboard and were drowning, they'd want to run your credit card before throwing you a life preserver, and they would gouge you on the life preserver fee because what are you gonna do, you need it and you it now?!

Completely shutting down, for instance, the private health insurance industry and replacing it with a 100% federally managed system would mean someone's rich CEO friends cannot buy a second yacht, and Republicans just can't have that
