How much does BMI matter?

My BMI says I’m obese, but I don’t look it. Does this matter?
Coralmist · 41-45, F
BMI is not used as much...according to it, they said, it says Tom Brady is obese 😯 which is DEFINITELY not true.
NCCindy · 36-40, F
It depends ...

You can be very healthy and have a BMI which says you are overweight. Part of the issue is that muscle weighs more than fat ... muscular people can have a high BMI.

If it's due to fat, then, it does matter !!!

According to the BMI index I should weigh 165 pounds, but at that weight I look like an unhealthy bean pole 🤷‍♂️

It's a somewhat controversial index of correct weight to height to muscle mass, etc. What's important is that your organ systems are healthy and functioning well, that you're not putting undue stress on your body either from poor nutrition or no nutrition, and that you love yourself for exactly who you are even if you never change a bit.

Depends if you're a body builder or not!

Those that say it doesn't matter, are likely to be over weight in truth! Because they are not body builders.

Me? I'm severely underweight and have to take BMIs seriously. No matter what height a BMI of 13 is very unhealthy unless you're a midget.

According to that, I should only be 140lbs max according to my height, the only problem is I would likely look emaciated, as most people would if they actually tried to follow that BS.

PE teachers put a lot of stock into it, those cockscuker wannabe drill sergeant dickheads. Look get a blood test, get your blood pressure checked and see where you're at.

BMI is just what people say is healthy. When I was about 35 I was considered overweight but was at the peak of health physically.
HoraceGreenley · 56-60, M
If you have a lot of muscle the formula is useless. My BMI is 30, which is obese, but I have a 32" waist.
Its not a comprehensive scale because it just factors in hight and weight and not body structure and density

BMI has been pretty much discredited. Don't worry. You are fine.
