These are to help ease your mind, and see that there is hope. Above all, see a dermatologist. They will discuss your type, and the creams to fade skin marks and further outbreaks.

I am not a medical professional but I have seen doctors FREQUENTLY misdiagnose contagious skin infections or infections that present with "rash-like" symptoms as psoriasis. Here are some examples:
Lyme Disease
Herpes
Fungal infections (like ringworm/jock itch/athletes foot)
Bacterial infections
Contact dermatitis (from allergens/toxins)
etc.
I mention this because you talked about recently losing a lot of weight. If done too quickly it stresses the body which (yes can be a trigger for those who have the genes for psoriasis) means that you are going to be more susceptible to infections. Definitely get a second opinion if you can afford it.

@CleverFunnyNameGoesHere thank you! Yes I am looking into a dermatologist. Actually it was misdiagnosed at first, the np who saw it thought it was bacterial so she gave me the wrong medication when my family doctor wasnt in but he looked at it and diagnosed it better. I'm definitely going to look into a dermatologist though despite the price bc I need to heal this now :(
Def get a second opinion or see another specialist covered under insurance. Your first prescription may not always work, as with anything else that’s topical. Right now it’s trial and error with the things your doctor prescribes until you continue to work together to find the right product or combination of products that can keep it in check. I’ve had some skin issues myself and didn’t find the right thing until 3 dermatologists and 5 prescriptions later. Everyone reacts differently to products so it’s gonna take some time. I hope you feel better soon and no, you did not ruin your body. 60 lbs is a big deal - don’t let the psoriasis take away from the amazing and healthier body that you worked so hard for.

@DecafD thank you I appreciate this,
I didnt have much time to enjoy or feel proud for my weight loss bc of this psoraiss, but I cant help feeling so angry. I worked so hard to lose the weight and now I know with this it will bring on a new set of problems like fiancianl and I'm very insecure and self conscious of where it spreads and leaves a mark. It's so disgusting, I just want my normal body back.
My next steps are reaching out to my family doctor and hopefully he will refer me to a dermatologist and idk I cant hope the marks will disappear I guess I can only hope to have it stopped completely from forming randomly for now

I have relatives with it. Never google symptoms; you're presented worst case scenarios without physician analysis. Every case is different.
Nine times out ten, at most it's irritating but manageable. No huge deal. It won't take over your face/ body. I have similar condition. Dont look at horror stories.

@Crushedstrawberries Mine is something called Seborrheic Dermatitis. My relatives however have Psoraisis. In their experience, a cortisteroid cream..Betamethasone works well, and their patches dont usually leave a mark. You may get a red patch, because skin is irritated or the cream's alcohol irritates the psoraisis. But unless you pick and scratch your spots it wont scar.
The marks you're seeing are the redness, rather than scarring.
My dermatitis leaves a temporary mark till the inflammation goes down. It also gets a plaque or weeps. Do not scratch.

@MartinSchaffer thank you, I really appreciate the links and you responding with help! 😭 I'm afraid I do scratch sometimes bc it's so itchy that only scratching will relieve it 😭
MartinSchaffer · 56-60, M
@Crushedstrawberries 😊You're most welcome. In time you and your dermatologist will find the solution that works best for you, have faith. In the beginning I was quite scared too, fearing it would take over my body and face.
As others have said, stress triggers it. My dermatitis outbreaks real bad as stress rises.
Yes, the itch can be horrendous. With dermatitis, washing around the affected area, keeping it as oil free as possible greatly reduces the incidence and itch....unsure if psoraisis is same way.
There are ointments/creams, and medication that help to reduce the itch. The betamethasone is one, along with others with soothing menthol, or directly block nerve signal for itching etc.

#1. Try to find time to calm down, stress makes inflammation worse. Take care of yourself.
2. Ask a specialist.
3. Research drugs while following doctor's advice. They will most likely suggest lotions and creams. They might suggest diet changes, more fluid intake.
4. Experiment with yourself. Psoriasis can be genetic so maybe see if anyone in your family has it.

@lovelywarpedlemon nobody else in my family has it fortunately. None of my aunties or siblings and this didnt kick off until my weight loss so I'm really upset with myself initially for this bc I was healthy and fine before it. I'm trying to calm down but I'm reading reddit mostly of other peoples experiences with psoriasis and see nothing of it going away entirely but just small things to reduce it. My next steps will be to see my family doctor again and be referred to a dermatologist but that's going to be costly and financially I am not in a good place so I'm just reakky freaking out. The only upside is I dont have severe psoraisis.
@Crushedstrawberries sorry wish you luck, there must be someone who can help you if you research enough
Start with seeing a doctor. Once you know for certain what it is, then you can deal with treatment for it.
Crushedstrawberries · 22-25, F
@HootyTheNightOwl yeah I meant I'm using the cream he prescribed, sorry for the confusion. It's just looking up and seeing no cure for this I'd really freaking me out, all bc I decided to go and live a healthier lifestyle.
@Crushedstrawberries Don't look it up. Leave it to a qualified professional to diagnose and treat.
Google will try and convince you that it's cancer or cooties if you allow it to play on your mind.
I did the same thing with my back and thought that I had a herniated disc or something - turned out to be tight muscles that a few sessions of acupuncture sorted out until isolation kicked in.

@HootyTheNightOwl thank you! I appreciate the advice! I'm avoiding google for all that, mostly using reddit and peoples personal experiences for this!

My mom has it.It flares up when she's really stressed. It goes asquickly as it comes. She hadn't had it in 15 years now.
Butterflykisses24 · 51-55, F
Crushedstrawberries · 22-25, F
@Butterflykisses24 wow really? Does she use a cream or any medication for it?
Butterflykisses24 · 51-55, F
@Crushedstrawberries I think yeah an rx cream not in years though.
xSiFiGamer2016x · 26-30, M
The only advice I can give you is to go check the doctors. You might not find the best solution. Just a recommendation.
Crushedstrawberries · 22-25, F
@xSiFiGamer2016x yeah I've done that but only have prescribed medication that reduces redness but not entirely unfortunately.
xSiFiGamer2016x · 26-30, M
@Crushedstrawberries At least the treatment is useful, but I'm sorry to hear about this. I almost forgot what psoraisis was until now.
muffinman · 61-69, M
go see a dermatologist … he probably can ease your anxiety.
Crushedstrawberries · 22-25, F
@muffinman thank you, that's my next step and I'm just hopeful the financial part of it will not be such a burden

SW-User
Um
Doctor?
Doctor?
Crushedstrawberries · 22-25, F
@SW-User yeah spoken to my family doctor and prescribed me a topical cream that has stopped/reduces redness but it sometimes spreads to other parts of my body

SW-User
Talk to him about that then.... sw isn’t the place for medical advice lol it’s diaper fetishes and time travel here@Crushedstrawberries
Crushedstrawberries · 22-25, F
@SW-User I know that but it's not like seeing a doctor is free/cheap unfortunately. Also I know sw isnt the place for that but others who have this condition can share their insight and advice.
ViciDraco · 41-45, M
psoriasis isn't always permanent. Have you spoken to a dermatologist?
Crushedstrawberries · 22-25, F
@ViciDraco no I'm broke so I havnt seen a dermatologist yet but have just been using the cream my family doctor prescribed to me
