Have you ever had to deal with a clinically insane person? What was it that made you get involved?

It was me. 馃槬

@Fernie Awww... Release the Winged Black Ones bearing addictive substance-bombs!
(sending candy-from-a-bat gift)
FernieF
@MissPriscillaPrim and it's lovely
MissPriscillaPrim70-79, T
That's nice. So I don't seem an ingrate, lemmee add that my guard is never let down on the Net... I know nothing about anyone here but their writing and I give an equal measure of trust. I think that thought is simply healthy... and boring and limited as writing about what's good always turns into...

Well, I wouldn't say "insane" but certainly mentally ill. I used to work with adults with developmental disabilities. Along with their disabilities, many were horribly abused by family and as a result suffered mental illness. It was really tough, and really, really sad.
FernieF
@SW-User yep...another ugly scenario, as you know, is that the person already had mental challenges and was abused because of that....easy prey
SW-User
@Fernie Exactly! Such a sickening thing.

Yes. More than one. I worked as a teacher in a state mental hospital for ten years.
MissPriscillaPrim70-79, T
@Fernie I'm fairly confident they will start doing this soon. After all, no one's entitled to anything, some people are lucky because [insert name of a god here] loves them, and nobody's gonna tell them they have to share one cent or one kind thought for another person. If someone's suffering, they should just curl up and die. Welcome to the mindset that is taking over America. What's worst is that America was founded as a better alternative to that troglodyte mindset. (I'm a lying evil queer, of course, America was founded to be Jesus-stan.)
FernieF
@MissPriscillaPrim Sadly, I know this could happen. I'm glad I'm on my way out and not just getting here...I do NOT want to see it
MissPriscillaPrim70-79, T
@Fernie I like the bittersweet cool of: "Keep smiling, as it's all we have left!"

馃My younger brother and my step sister work with mentally ill people and it can be a dangerous job for someone who isn't prepared for it!
SW-User
@Spitbak Yes! It can be!
SW-User
@Spitbak Very true.

Yes, I used to work with patients with alzheimers and dementia. Some of them had violent spells. We also had those we called sundowners, because their condition would get worse around that time of day. Some of them would start screaming, or refuse to come out of their rooms.
Starcrossed41-45, F
My spouse worked on a psych ward for 10 yrs and occasionally we would encounter former patients while out and about. Best to try to not make eye contact and not engage.
MissPriscillaPrim70-79, T
@Starcrossed Not any of them? I encounter some street people who clearly don't want to be approached, but others who welcome a friendly hi or even a chat. I think having your humanity acknowledged is as necessary as eating and sleeping... and the street people go crazy because everyone pretends they're invisible. But I'm a rank amateur with a bit of anecdotal evidence, and I would defer to any knowledge and experience you'd care to share.
Starcrossed41-45, F
@MissPriscillaPrim obviously if one offer's a greeting we will small chat back. He really tried to protect his privacy though, especially our child from patients even knowing we exist because some can be dangerous with stalking or violence.

*I was speaking specifically about seeing his former patients not mentally ill in general. ...though there are certain personality disorders we'll avoid or be guarded around if we know or suspect someone has them.
FernieF
[@MissPriscillaPrim "and the street people go crazy because everyone pretends they're invisible" As an advocate for the homeless and a case worker for years..I know you are right about that...no doubt

I have a friend who is schizophrenic, and we've known each other since high school. I couldn't want him out of my life. We've had some really fun times, and played / recorded a lot of music together.
It is an area in my career to deal with people with mental problems. I had hoped at one time to specialize in it.
SW-User
Well, there's no medical definition for "insane."
MissPriscillaPrim70-79, T
@SW-User Then it must not exist. Oh. Writing that shows I'm now the first genuine crazy. (Rimshot: Ba-DUMP-bum Tsssch) :o)
SW-User
@MissPriscillaPrim Seriously, it's a legal definition, not a medical one.
