I had shoulder replacement surgery, and it was a total success. If his shoulder is affecting his quality of life and he is in good health, I think it is okay to have the surgery.

If he’s healthy otherwise , yes ..
Some people are old at 80 some are not. People can be very old and fit and healthy these days. It depends on what complications might occur. A young person might not be fit for shoulder surgery if they have a certain complication.

depends how fit & healthy he is. I look at Jane Fonda at 80, and go, clearly she can deal with it. A lot of 80 year olds though, might not survive surgery, or wont live long enough afterwards for it to make it worthwhile to go through the shock and pain

I have specialized in orthopedics. Seen a lot. Helped a lot of people with rehab. Depends upon the person and their activity level and the surgeon's recommendations.

If he's an active oldster who uses his arms for more than actuating the remote, there's no good reason for denying him such a procedure.

If the risk of putting him under anesthesia isn't too great, and if he's in good health for his age, I'd say go for it.

What does his doctor say?

If he’s healthy otherwise and it would improve his quality of life. My 85 year old father had hip replacement surgery last month and is already walking without his cane.
