@Magenta we were never rich, and lived in an apartment, a floor in a 2 floor walk up, but my father loved gadgets and so we were the first on our block to have a tv, a tiny little screen in B & W. The neighbors would come over to watch such things as baseball, the circus, etc.

@Magenta we had a fishing shack out on Long Island and had very little chance to watch YV since it was way further than the NYC signals went. I was able to mount a huge roof antennae and got signal from Connecticut.
a friend in college had the first color tv i ever watched. i remember we watched a Rose Bowl game and although the image started out in color, by the end it reverted to black and white, there was not enough light in the stadium to provide color.
