I'll let you know when they stop asking.

I was asked last week. I'm 38, and live in a country where only people who look under 25 are asked. And legal drinking age is 18 (20 for hard liquor)
@LordBarbossa That used to happen to me. Sad when I realized that era had ended

ArishMell · 70-79, M
I have never been asked that, even in my teens, though I must admit that I didn't try it on.

[Pauses to scroll the annoying video loop off the screen.]

Though that was long enough ago for pubs not to use formal ID ways.

Much more recently a lass in a Spar shop asked if I was over-25.... for a deodorant! I laughed and said I was in my late-forties, but added, "Thank you for the compliment!"

.....

One knows one might look of a Certain Age though, when buying a ticket at the door to an exhibition the assistant does not ask but automatically charges one the OAP rate... all of a quid off a tenner.
ArishMell · 70-79, M
@Ghostinthemachine Oh am I sure we do! I have a bus-pass and rail-card.

Being over-60 my prescription-medicines are free to me (don't worry, I pay enough direct and indirect taxes to fund them), but I was very surprised to find that start at age 60 when I was still in full-time work.
@ArishMell one of the perks of gaining wisdom, knowledge…and years of experience 🙂
ArishMell · 70-79, M
@Ghostinthemachine Not sure that experience necessarily brings wisdom! :-)
bowman81 · M
I am in my 70's and still get asked. It seems some establishments are keeping track of how much they serve you. They scan your ID when you purchase alcoholic beverages and cut you off after 3.
The days of walking up to the bar to buy a round for everyone at your table are over.
@bowman81 Big Brother wants to know…everything
MellyMel22 · F
Still happens. My older kids find it funny. My 20 yr old used my season pass the other day that shows a screen with my pic. I guess it’s a compliment 🤣
@MellyMel22 Maybe you’re like Adaline, who never ages 😳
MellyMel22 · F
@Ghostinthemachine Fingers crossed! The funeral home told me and my mom that my grandma had better skin than 50 yr olds they saw there. Gram was in her 90’s 😁
@MellyMel22 Hope you have your grandma’s genes, while wearing your daughters jeans 🤭
FreddieUK · 70-79, M
If you go to the self-scan checkouts in a UK supermarket and you have anything with alcohol in it, like the rum babas I enjoy, they have to come over and check you out. It's funny now. On one occasion I saw the list that the assistant had to tick and they chose to press the button marked, 'it's obvious'!
@FreddieUK oh no! 🤣
Last time I was asked for ID I was quite surprised…until I remembered I was wearing a mask 😷
saintsong · 41-45, F
I was asked the last time I renewed my ID I only had that paper thing and it didn't have my age on it, but luckily I had my over 20 something son with me at the time!!!! He was like uh she's my MOM!!! Ha ha ha, the cashier said I looked young! I was also asked for ID not too long ago for cigarettes maybe a year ago! But I am 44 years old seriously!!!
@saintsong That must’ve put a smile on your face and a hop in your step
Well, when I order wine with my grocery delivery, I have to show id—they can’t just leave it. But that kind of doesn’t count because it’s not about me personally. 😄
@bijouxbroussard doctors look too young to be doctors nowadays
@Ghostinthemachine Lol, my doctor just had her first child.

I remember how I felt when Barack Obama was the first POTUS to be younger than me (although it wasn’t by that much) 😄
@bijouxbroussard We seem to be hitting all of these benchmarks much too quickly
It's funny so the drinking age here is 19...I've had a beard since then so I've never really been carded but I got a haircut a few months ago and they shaved my beard really short and that day when I went to buy booze I got carded..I'm pushing 40 xD
@MrBlueGuy So ya gonna grow it back or quit drinking?
@Ghostinthemachine Quit drinking???

OH it's already back it grows really fast.
@MrBlueGuy
Orca4950 · 70-79, M
I was asked for ID to get a wristband allowing me to buy alcohol at a fesitval this weekend. I'm 75. Lol
Orca4950 · 70-79, M
@Orca4950 talking about being carded. Serveral friends and I were walking the the New Orleans French Quarter during the 1966 Mardi Gras. I was able to buy beer being 6 ft tall. The shorter friends couldn't. Lol
Orca4950 · 70-79, M
@Ghostinthemachine never had rhythm lol
@Orca4950 I’ve done the same with my friends, sending the tallest one in to get us a six pack while on a school trip 😁
val70 · 51-55
I scan my articles at a certain Dutch chain of shops and they always need to check this. I'm delighted that I'm still considered young ☺
@val70 nice to be reminded that in the eyes of some you’re still a young pup
Lugwho · 61-69, M
I've only ever been asked once. That was in Memphis airport when I was 57.
@Lugwho what’s the legal drinking age there?
Lugwho · 61-69, M
@Ghostinthemachine In the UK it's 18. No idea what it was in Memphis.
@Lugwho and I just found out it’s 16 for energy drinks
wildbill83 · 41-45, M
could buy cigarettes and alcohol when I was 15-16; I never got carded once until I was in my mid 20's... 🤔
@wildbill83 what did you do to get carded in your 20s? 🤨
Rickichickie · 61-69, F
It was a few years ago, when we crossed the border to the UK. Now you need a passport.
Rickichickie · 61-69, F
@Ghostinthemachine I went to our local corner shop with my lil brother, both of us teens and asked for a small bottle of rum for my mom who wanted to bake a cake with it. We lived in a small village where everyone knew everyone.
It was a lie and the can of coke I bought additionally, should‘ve given it away.
When we were far enough away from the shop I opened the coke, took a good sip, added the rum and shared the drink with my brother.
@Rickichickie you sneaky little enabler!
Rickichickie · 61-69, F
@Ghostinthemachine that's what big sisters are for. Cheers 🍹
minxy · 46-50, F
I can't remember the exact age, it was my early 30's, when the grey hair really started to show.
@minxy are you still grey, or have you coloured it?
minxy · 46-50, F
@Ghostinthemachine I colored up til about a year ago and then let it grow out.
@minxy au natural is best
laurieluvsit · 26-30, F
I still get asked for it.

I think they just want to know my address ...lol

...actually, I'm not kidding
@laurieluvsit that’s kinda creepy 😣
I feel it is a compliment when people card me
@geminirising I agree.
And lately I haven’t been receiving any compliments 😔😂
AdaXI · T
Can't say I've ever been asked for ID I've always just used money LOLZ😄
乂^◡^乂
@AdaXI paying cash and being asked for id
AdaXI · T
@Ghostinthemachine Non that I can think of and I'm just having a laugh...

I mean they've never asked me for ID even when I wasn't old enough to legally drink.

They were always a lot more interested in taking my cash🤷🏼 LOLZ😅
乂^◡^乂
@AdaXI those swindlers!
I never been asked
Apart from being refused it in Orlando in a walgreens because I didn't have any id. I was about 45
@jackjones68 not even in your early 20s?
@Ghostinthemachine the legal age in England is 18. I was shaving at 14
@jackjones68 you were mature for your age 🧔
dale74 · M
I still get asked and i am over 50
@dale74 impressive! I wanna be you when I grow up 🙂
Bignakedguy · 31-35, M
The cashier told me “No need.” When I was looking for my ID and was like “You’re like 34 or 35????” And I was like….
@Bignakedguy How old were you at the time?
I don’t think I’ve ever been asked
@TangledUpInBlue That’s strange, maybe they aren’t as stringent with the rules where you are? 🤔
@Ghostinthemachine or maybe I just look like a drunk and they feel sorry for me.
@TangledUpInBlue Yes, let’s think the worst case scenario and go with that one
BabyDolls · 22-25, T
i don’t buy alcohol but i got asked for ID buying an energy drink
@BabyDolls You have to be a certain age to have one of those? I had no idea
BabyDolls · 22-25, T
@Ghostinthemachine 16 in the uk
mindstruggle · 31-35, F
Never been asked. I guess I carry the exhaustion of someone twice my age.
@mindstruggle some people carry the look of the weight of the world in their shoulders. I hope that’s not you
mindstruggle · 31-35, F
@Ghostinthemachine
I'm not sure. 😥
@mindstruggle you’re too young to be old, if you know what I mean
So many years ago, I've forgotten. Hahaha
@LadyGrace doesn’t matter, as long as you continue to age gracefully 🙂
I still get asked, some places ID everyone
@Bleed and ruin you for every other PVC pant wearing man in your life?
I couldn’t do that to you 😌
Bleed · 41-45, F
@Ghostinthemachine I’m willing to take that risk.
@Bleed that’s a win win for you. What’s in it for me?
Jenny1234 · 56-60, F
30 something
@Jenny1234 That would be a good title for a TV show based in the 90s
Bleed · 41-45, F
I think the last time I was 36.
@Bleed so not too long ago. It’ll happen again…watch and see
Bleed · 41-45, F
@Ghostinthemachine Oh I think those days are well and truly over 😂
@Bleed well you’ll have to let me know if/when it does so I can make you eat your words 😉
Panamared · 70-79, M
@Panamared and what were you doing at 15 that required your ID to be checked 🤨
Panamared · 70-79, M
@Ghostinthemachine equipment manager for a garage band, played some beer joints, most were over 18 in the band, could drink beer at 18, my cousin was the bass player, we were both 15
@Panamared sounds like some fun times and memories, the early life of a roadie 🙂
ToLivePeacefully · 31-35, M
I never bought alcohol myself until very recently.
@ToLivePeacefully why did you start?
ToLivePeacefully · 31-35, M
@Ghostinthemachine I started drinking at parties so I didn't buy them myself.

Rest of the times I bought via friends again for parties.

Direct purchase was never required, hence never needed id.
@ToLivePeacefully next round is on you then 😁
HumanEarth · F
I can't remember a time I carded

But it helps when when your the same age as dirt
@HumanEarth You must be old, your memory is fading fast 💨
50 something
@SomeMichGuy that’s pretty good to be asked for ID at that age!
Yeah; I have looked younger for a while, @Ghostinthemachine.

In that instance, I believe they just checked everybody.

But when I was turning 40, people fresh out of undergrad, when I told them I was older, asked with a bit of trepidation, "Are you turning...thirty??"...!
@SomeMichGuy I used to get that, from people that were younger than me, thinking I was younger than them
Iwillwait · M
I don't buy stuff that requires an ID.
@Iwillwait amazing to be able to avoid it
NYCChick · 31-35, F
still get asked for id alot of time which isnt fun
@NYCChick it’s a lot less fun when you don’t get asked anymore 😕
Allelse · 36-40, M
Never bought any.
@Allelse make your own moonshine?
BamPow · 51-55, MNew
They scan ID’s here, so it’s just a given that you have to show it.
@BamPow that’s tough, no slipping by then
About 12 when my mustache started coming in.
@HumanEarth I like your confidence, which is half the battle.
You keep being you, HE 🙂
HumanEarth · F
Besides who looks better in a dress. Hairy women or hairy men? That is the question

Cigarguy · M
Probably in my early 30's
@Cigarguy must be young looking for your age!
Cigarguy · M
@Ghostinthemachine I'm short so that probably had something to do with it lol
@Cigarguy I’d say “youthful exuberance” instead 😁

@Darksideinthenight2 she was checking to see if you were the right age for her 😏
This comment is hidden. Show Comment
@Darksideinthenight2 never too late!

Or is it?
LadyBronte · 56-60, F
Not quite 30.
@LadyBronte those were the days…
LadyBronte · 56-60, F
@Ghostinthemachine Yes. They were.
basilfawlty89 · 36-40, M
Proof of age?
A long time ago (thanks for reminding me, d1ck).
Identity?
Weekly, people assume I'm a drug dealer for some reason.
@basilfawlty89 now why would someone assume you’re a drug dealer??? 🤨
basilfawlty89 · 36-40, M
@Ghostinthemachine eh, buzz cut, facial hair, earring, jeans, black leather, etc. I guess? I dunno.
@basilfawlty89 that’s discrimination!
@Gibbon 6…score and seven years old?
Gibbon · 70-79, M
@Roundandroundwego 33 is a nice number to remember things by
@Ghostinthemachine that's when asking people for id became mandatory in our city.
@Roundandroundwego I hope you celebrated with a drink 🍻
