What's a sound or noise you heard growing up that you don’t hear anymore.

For me it's my mom and aunts talking in swedish. The sonic nooms of the jets over the farm practicing dogfights, and the cows and sheep. Cars Don't sound the same. No dial tone on the phone when you pick it up. No static on the TV when you change channels.

I grew up during the steam to diesel change on the railroad so miss the sound of those engines fighting gravity as they pulled cars up the valley. Also the sound of the whistles, clacking of the wheels on rail joints and the bells of the crossing gates.

@SageWanderer Diesel trains also make a clacking sound on rail joints. Neil Diamond mentioned it in his hit song "Beautiful Noise" in 1976, and steam trains had been discontinued quite some time before then so he must have been thinking of a diesel train.
