About a year ago I had this horrible pain in my jaw. They diagnosed me with TMJ at the hospital, even though that was the one and only time in my life I ever had that kind if pain.

But what I did that day was - swish super cold water in that area, I had to do that every few minutes. That may or may not help others.

At the hospital, they didn't even give me anything but the pain stopped at some point on it's own.

Mine might have been due to a bad tooth on that side, which has since been pulled.

My jaw clicks often. A couple of years ago during the pandemic I may have dislocated it in my sleep and it didn't go back in place by itself. The pain was extraordinary. I eventually got seen to in the ER by a Doctor who googled my symptoms. Printed out some exercises for my mouth and a script for Panadeine forte that didn't dull anything.

They recommend eating a softer diet. Taking painkillers (anti-inflammatory so long as you have no conditions), talking or opening the mouth less. Alternating between cold and warm compresses.
Resting.
Then booking an appointment with your dentist.

They may be able to help with a oral massage, offer you a splint, or recommend you see a specialist.

I take muscle relaxants and massage my jaw muscle just below the temples.
I wear a mouth guard and take motrin.

I’m guessing you do, or you wouldn’t be posting about it.

What is TMJ?
lauranne · 18-21, F
@Convivial why is that?
Convivial · 26-30, F
@lauranne I had to look it up, but I was going to ask the same question...

@Convivial @lauranne An acronym for a jaw disorder.
