Okay I think I got a concussion in my recent crash, and the symptoms are getting worse

Luckily the CT scan they did at the hospital showed nothing but I’ve read that it usually can’t detect plain old concussions. My brain is foggy, simple things are super hard, and I’m still having memory problems (short and long term). And it’s been getting increasingly worse. Have to wait till Monday to try and get in with a specialist ugh.

I hope it goes away soon but I'm really glad you're on top of it. Losing part of your memory must have been really scary. :(
how long ago was this?
it can take a long time for this to heal.
Zeuro · 26-30, F
@nonsensiclesnail it happened on the 10th
@Zeuro Ive been told, because my mom went through this a few months ago. they said it can take at least 6 weeks for you to heal. It's good you are going to see someone. Get some answers! But this may be very typical.

If there's no sign of damage on ct scan then what you're experiencing is probably delayed shock.

It's a combination of physical shock; emotional upset and survivor guilt which your mind and psyche are trying to process and recover from.

It's very common

@Picklebobble2 I mean no, CT scans can’t detect most concussions, only like scull fractures and major bleeds. My mental health has been fine and I’m not guilty I survived lol, and all my symptoms are consistent with a concussion (like the recent ringing in my ears).

Even if you've got a concussion all they're going to do is tell you to get rest and recover there's no medical shot there's no medicine you might have a slight headache and treat it with Tylenol. You should be good to go within a few days to at the most 2 weeks.
Zeuro · 26-30, F
@dale74 actually I did get prescribed some meds

The CT scan should have shown swelling in the brain if you have a concussion. Chances are you're just knocked up bruised internally and sore. Laughs as in memory are common because your body's thinking about the pain you were in.
Zeuro · 26-30, F
@dale74 no, CT scans often don’t detect minor TBIs. I mean I was literally found unconscious, which makes it a grade 4 concussion (meaning I was knocked out for more than 60 seconds)

I've been in a couple crashes, neither as bad as yours, and yes, I've experienced pain and discomfort and fogginess weeks after the crash. For me it went away though after maybe a week after onset.

My mom had similar issues after her accident as well. They could last a few weeks to a few months.

Stay off of screens and use sunglasses if you need it (even indoors)

Definitely check with a neurologist tho

They were looking for a brain bleed on the ct scan. Still can have an injury.

@Zeuro Hopefully things will clear.

Ngl... This almost sounds like you are getting ready to file an insurance claim.
Zeuro · 26-30, F
My car was under my parents names so I think they’re taking care of it. Also my cognition is too fucked rn to do anything that complicated lol
Subsumedpat · 36-40, M
Is it any better now?
Zeuro · 26-30, F
@Subsumedpat it’s gotten better!

@Zeuro that is good to hear

It's normal for concussions to have effects for at least a couple weeks, worse at the beginning. I had patches of missing time and conversations following the days after mine.

If it was recent then definitely get a scan but have patience with yourself
Reading your later posts about the accident, it seems you came out okay. You're lucky. Things could have been much worse.
