during covid the gym closed and I became lazy and started eating bad due to boredom so I gained 40 LB !! I then went travelling and when I posted pictures some friends commented on how fat I was , also when I returned I went skiing in the rockies for a week and my performance was horrible. so after the ski trip I decided to lose weight. I lost 25LB in 3 months, then went to Peru for a month and I havent lost any weight since. (that was in may) . I still have about 15LB to lose but I can,t find the discipline to get back on the diet. I am careful about what I eat so I didn,t gain any weight back. I now weight myself every day, I find it helps to keep my weight under control.

@reflectingmonkey Losing 25 in 3 months is awesome! Thats admirable. Luckily I just got out of appointment and I lost ten pounds, not six only like I thought!

@Coralmist oh, great !! i need to go back to discipline and calculating everything. I'm very self-conscient about it because I was always the one telling people how to live more healthy, this is why my friends are so blunt in telling me "when did you get so fat ?" , I'm the health guy. I am a liscenced nutrition consultant although I don't do this for a living.

@reflectingmonkey Someone did remind me here though, we have to remember we are not what our body may look or be like...and in that moment, its all ok because we are perfect the WAY we are, any form. Think of that amount you lost, great!!

@CoralmistI apreciate the thought but I'm not a big fan of the whole body positiveness movement, having the ideal weight for your body type and a proper food and exercise lifestyle is healthier and permits more physical activity and a healthier mind. if I look in the mirror and I don't like that I have a belly that will motivate me to lose it, I gain nothing from someone telling me i'm fine the way I am. I prefer to have friends that tell me I gained weight and I should lose weight . I think its a self-serving mentality to tell people who are overweight that they look wonderful, for sure they will love you for making them feel good but then maybe they'll die 20 years prematurally because no one told them the truth : that they needed to lose weight.

@reflectingmonkey If someone is obese and the weight gain is affecting their health numbers, or they cannot breathe well, I wouldn't say they are fine how they are. But if a person is carrying a few extra pounds, and they generally are in good health, I would celebrate the body ...otherwise shame of any part of ourselves, doesnt typically just make us motivated. There was a study done where they found overweight people lived longer, than thin people. Does that always happen, no..but, being thin, doesn't mean you will always live longer.

@Coralmist I don't know what research you are refering to but I studied nutrition and have never heard such a thing. thin people definitively live longer but also enjoy life more: they are more active, bike, climb mountains, travel. I'm a backpacker and I travel a lot, one time we were 1000 backpackers hanging out in the colombian jungle, how many were overweight? maybe 1%, I really don't remember seeing anyone overweight because it was 4 hours of walking in the jungle to get there. I beleive in encouraging each other to better ourselves, but to each his own. some people smoke cigarettes and eat bad and convince themselves that they are living the life and that eating properly and not smoking equates to not fully enjoying life. to each his own.
